It's probably due to his stock GM sound system. OK, help an old man out!

Bought the boy a gas mileage car for college and took the sound system from his hotrod before selling it. Want to put this in my 02 silverado ext. cab,but need help finishing this system.

    Alpine CDA-9856 unit
Kenwood KAC 8402 2/3/4 channel amp

    2-12" Kenwood W3010 4 ohm subs
    Kenwood KAC 7202 amp

Have 4 infinity 5 x 7's but they won't fit the chevy speaker holes. I believe the truck takes 6 1/2" in the front doors and 4" x 6" in the rear. Would like to hide the amps (possibly behind the rear seat),and although the cu. ft. will be restrictive I would like the subs under the rear seat.
    Found this box, http://caraudiofactory.com/992006-chevy-extended-p-43.html

    Like the DF box better?

    Any recommendations for door speakers?
What kind of kit do I need to install the Alpine unit?

Wonder what the kids will think when the ole-man rolls up with his chebby thumpn :D

    What do I need?

I guess one answer I'm looking for is what do I need for speakers? Bought this system a couple of yrs ago and installed it myself. Sounded good to us,but had to turn the amp down some or the infinity's started smelling hot when turned up for very long. Obviously they're under rated for the amp.,but they still sound good after 2 yrs. They were recommended by a salesman for fitting his T-bird.

If I remember right the 8402 4 channel put out around 900 watts. So, what's that mean, 225 per channel? How does that rating work on amps, like speaker ratings? Is that peak,if so whats the rms. Don't have the manuals anymore.

Can I even find 4 x 6's rated high enough,or do I need to add speakers. I know this is 101 stuff, but complicated for an oldschooler.

your Kenwood KAC 8402 puts out 60 watts per channel at 4ohms. Which is totally fine. Now, your truck takes 6 3/4" speakers in the front and 4x6 speakers in the rear. so obviously those 5x7's won't fit in your truck so you gonna have to sell them and buy some new speakers. I would really advise you to put some nice speakers up front and either use your stock speakers for the rear or buy some coaxial speakers for the rear.

now my question is, how much are you willing to spend for some good component speakers up front? you should be looking a 6.5"... they will fit in the 6 3/4" holes.

for your sub box, I would recommend a probox if you don't want to make a box yourself. Pedro, loves his box and it really does slam. here's the link

Thats a good looking box. Where can I order one?

Hadn't considered a budget really. Will $400-$500 finish this system? I'll need to replace the rears as well,my boys have pretty much roasted the stock speakers. Not a show truck, but I like good sound.

you can order a probox on their site. just hit the contact button on their site. Maybe pedro can jump in here and give you more info on that. He owns a probox and stands by it and says it really is a good box. I've heard that they make some solid boxes.

I'm guessing 400-500 should finish the system. That all depends on what you want for component speakers up front and what kind of coax speakers you will get for the rear.

I can point you in a direction. for budget speakers that sound really good. Look for Phoenix Gold RSD's, 6.5" component speakers. They are said to have awesome sound especially for the price.

You may also want to look at brands like Polk, DLS and Focal. The list goes on and on. I really suggest you listen to speakers at a car audio shop and pick what you like best though.

If you really liked your infinity before, then you could also take a look at them as well. They make nice speakers, i find their highs to be a little bright though.

I did take a trip to the audio shop and choose the infinity components for the front. Compared them to several pioneer components and the kappa's. Also picked up some infinty 2ways for the rear.

Everything fit well, was surprised at how easy it was to pull all the wiring in the chevy. Pulled the rear seat for mounting the amps on the back wall, then threw the old sub box in the back untill my new box arrives. Should look pretty much factory other than the alpine in the dash.

Running dual batts with an isolator. Ran the 1st battery down 3 times at the jobsite this morning. lol We were working 50 yds away, sounded great at only 2/3's volume. But I'm thinking about adding another set of components in the rear doors,if I can do so behind the door panels. I have to fade the lil 45 watt 4 x 6's too much to really hear them.

    Thanks for the help cccullen
