Hey guys I had this idea that came to me and wanted yalls opinion. I have a box about 14" x 12" in the very back of the trunk and a 5 channel amp. So our trunks (Mark VIII) are very deep and this gives me an idea. What if i took 2 tension rods and mount them horizontally above and below about where the hindge of the trunk is. Slide a piece of fabric ,the same color of the trunk, connected on them by just sewing the ends over so its nice and taut. Then mount 3 smaller tension rods mounted vertically in front of that screen to make sure nothing slides into it and knocks it down. Now anyone that breaks into the trunk doesnt realize the depth of the trunk because its blocked off by a screen that looks like the back of the trunk. Its easy.. cheap.. and effective no?

sounds like a cheap, and effective way of theft deterrent, but you have to figure that if they are breaking into your car, it is because they have probably heard your car, and they know that you have a system, and they want it, and they don't want to buy it. I don't think that cloth will stop a determined thief.

Just get an alarm. they are ultra cheap anymore, and the nice ones can be programmed to do lots of useful things.

My alarm works great. I terrorized my old town for four years with two 15's in a very recognizeable truck, and although my alarm went off some times (for appearantly no reason), I never once had anything stolen out of my truck. they see the blinking light, they think it's fake.. they kick the tires, the alarm goes off, they run.. I get to keep my stuff. end of story.

do you whan to mount it permanently or just secure it?

this may sound cheap but my sub box is strapped down with a rachet strap to my suv's anchor points.

it's so i can move it for road trips.

My theroy was always to keep a very low profile....never advertise what you have by cranking it up for all to hear (see)....I can tell you that people sit around and they listen when people drive by and have their stuff cranked up..I have seen many many systems that were simply a sub box and amp sitting in the trunk...Not strapped down...easy pickin's...no alarm, no nothing....Securing your stuff is a good way to keep the smash and grab from getting away with a lot...I have seen pieces of systems destroyed by thiefs who could not get the piece out of the car.....

Be very careful showing your stuff to a friend of a friend of a friend.....

If you worked hard for the money and bought carefully....Treat your stuff like anyone and everyone could want to steal it....

bolting to the floor of the trunk is a great idea, jut be careful not to drill into the gas tank.. ( I don't think that there is a whole lot of clearance between the tank and the trunk floor on that car, and dropping the tank is a total beeeeeotch..)

that could still also lead to the vandalism that generally occurs with a failed theft attempt.. like I said, alarms are effective, and affordable.:)
