Ok guys, I bought a new ford fusion 06..and I want to install a new audio system. I started at best buy (lol) and I've tried million of online places, including crutchfield, eddesigns or something like that...and I still have million doubts. I like all kinds of music, and I'm not a big fan of loud massive bass on the car. I prefer clear, good quality sound. I am planning on changing all 4 speakers in my car (5x7's front and rear doors), adding an amp to those, and I'm not sure what should I get for the trunk. The trunk has 6x9' holes to put something in there, or should I got with a box with dual 12's or 10's (which adds weight and gets rid of my trunk space). Please give me suggestions guys, I'd have to endup in an audio forum and talk with the people that know about this. Give me suggestions on specific speakers you've got already (brand and model and your experience with them please) Should I get component speakers for the inside? I don't want to be mounting tweeters in my car I think, I would prefer for the speakers to have them mounted already. Also, do I necesarilly have to change Head Unit? I'm not sure I would want to do that. They told me it's a good head unit, even though many think changing HU should be the first step. My budget is about 1.5k
Isounds like you want quality over quantity, good deal. If your trunk is on the small side, and you dont want to lose all your space, a couple of 8 inch subs would be a nice way to go. That teamed up with about 3-500 watts of clean power would make for a nice sounding bottom end to the music without sacrificing alot of space. As far as your highs go, you will find alot of vaaried opinions in here. If you want a nice set of 5x7 spakers for the front, listen to all available and get what sounds good to you. Another option would be to bet a 5 and a tweeter component set for the front doors, "plates " can be built to hold them in the 5x7 location, this would yeild a nicer sound. As far as headunits go, if you like the stock looks and performance, it can easily be used with an after market amp. I have done many systems using the stock radio with aftermarket subs/amps/speakers and they always sounded good. But the addition of a new HU would make for better sound quality. So maybe for now, just a set of subs, an amp and a set of componet speakers in the front doors. It would makefor a nice, and , upgradeable system down the road when you might want a little more performance.
insted of the 5x7s in the front doors you might want to look into a set of seprates.any good shop can tell you what will fit. as for the rear doors the stock 5x7s might sound better when amplified by that 4 ch amp.you'll save some money that way to put better speakers in the front doors.the rears should just be for fill any ways.you want most of the sound to come from the front.as for the sub.......you couold go with a bazooka tube.i think circut city still lets you test one in your car.at least they do by my house.or a 10 in. in what ever box you want sealed or ported depends on your musical taste. i like sealed because they sound good with all sorts of music. again go with what sounds good to you.if you go to a private highend shop they will sometimes let you listen to a demo system in a car.you can keep your factory stereo(for stealth) but remember to buy an amp you can use with it.alot of companies sell adaptors to change the speaker wire output to rca's.or find an amp that takes speaker wire inputs.you can still find some good ones out there.you just have to look.or you can buy an aftermarket radio.BUT some new cars require you to buy an adaptor to install it.my buddy has a 2004 monte carlo and his new radio needed a 90.00 adaptor.something to do with the door chime function.go to crutchfield .com and they will tell you what fits.(with all your system not just your radio) then go from there.it will be a starting point.
Right now I just ordered a set of Boston Acoustics SL80 Component Plate System for the front and JBL Power P8652 5"x7"/6"x8" 2-way Speakers for the back. As for the amps and sub I'll wait a little longer till I decide what I really want. Do you guys think I did good in buying these speakers?
Well, I spent 800$ in these 2 sets of speakers, wiring, a tool kit, and a x4 car amp (Alpine MRP-F450 70W x4). I bought from crutchfield, so I got the harnesses, installation guides and 1 year warranty included. I still need suggestions on sub/sub amp. There seems to be too much different opinions. Guys I like rock, hip hop, trance..everything...I prefer a smooth, sharp bass, rather than a massive vibrating crap in my trunk. Please help me on this.
Boston G2 or G5 series subs are smooth, sharp, and just orgasmic....as for amp...JL 500/1 would be nice...if you have the money.
