    hi,
i need a new amp. my boston gt-22 has packed it in. i think it got too hot from being installed under the driver seat but something is causing a terrible brrrr noise it vibrates the whole driver side door panel. we isolated the fault to the amp (by accidentally dropping a screwdriver on it) - possible dry solder or something?

it's only 18 months old so i'm gutted the “pro audio” guy that did the install decided to pack up his shop and take off without telling anyone where he was going and even more gutted that boston don't have any australian service centres anymore.

bottom line is i'm just going to cut my losses and buy a new amp. problem is i don't know much about car audio. i ended up with this system from several weeks of audio forum / website trawling bouncing questions off these car audio gurus.

this time I really only have one question - what's a decent 2 channel amp to replace the gt-22 around the $300 price range? i'm running boston SR50 front speakers which were previously powered by the GT-22 I also have a 12 inch R series alpine sub in the boot powered by a seperate mono block alpine amp installed under passenger seat. This is all hooked up to an Alpine CDA-117E HU.

My music taste is primarily bass driven but not so much of the electronic variety. I mostly listen to rock, hard rock, metal, punk, funk, blues but also have a penchant for throwing some electro tracks in the fray.

I saw a JL Audio Slash v2 150w RMS x2 @ 4 ohms (used but in good condition) for $299 but am thinking the amp is too powerful for my 75w RMS x2 @ 4 ohms boston SR50 speakers? Like I said I don’t know much about car audio hence why I’m here… I’ve also looked at MB Quartz Discus DSC280 80w RMS x2 @ 4ohms and also a Focal Solid 2 2x 75w @ 4ohms. I’m not restricting myself to any of these, just what I’ve come up with so far. If you got better ideas I’m all ears.

    Thanks for your time!
