Well I finally installed the Shivas they sound good, just like everyone says but (always a but) I can seem to get it "level matched" Meaning by the time the bass kicks in he tweets are way way in to distortion (grated they are realy sucky speakers in a terrible location but....) to get the output up to "respectable" levels the HU has to go to 34-36 max is 40 normally I would only go to about 20-24 and that is with bass boost 1/2 and gain max     Any idea? Box too small maybe? I dont know I will be making a new custom "rear firing" truck box this summer (my own little idea we will see how well it works) I still have to play with the LPF, SF, and all that, Probally just not tweaked, i mean it gets loud, probally just because it is a truck....
gain is not "set to max" I turned it up in my testing come on guys, I am not a newbe here HEad unit ----> JVC SX950 from 2001 Amp ----------> Audibahn A12001D from 2000 Subs ----------> Dual Shiva Box ------------> Sealed 1.28 cubes per side
Hrmmm, I had mine in 1.25 feet seeing about 425 apiece and the did real well,a low 140 (from my trunk no less). All I can say is be sure you didn't reverse polarity on those coils (hey, we've all done it at least once ), and doublecheck your settings. They will take a week to loosen up (I'm sure you noticed how stiff the suspension is on them brand new) but it shouldn't be that bad. They get pretty punchy in 1.25 feet too. I just say, doublecheck your settings tomorrow Mike. Specs on the Bahn (including input voltage which I believe is .200Mv to 8 volts right?) and pre-out on the HU Mike (guessing 2 volts, but I am not sure)? If my guesses about are correct the gainmatch would be about 3/4 for a match and about 7/8 for a 2:1, which would be acceptable with 300 watts.
I dont remember what the audibahn is rated for, had it for 4 years, this is the first time in 3 years I had to do anything with it, so I done forgot all the specs the HU **suppose to be*** 4v I will keep playing ti is, for sure I still think alot of it is the fact that 1> it is a single cab truck 2> the box fires in to the seat I have a few ideas for a new box, but it has to wait till summber
well son of a bitch if it is not one thing it is another this has just not been my week at all; I go out to play with it alittle before work, power it up and the Digtal Read out says "hi" well I am thinking "hi back at you" but no, Hi VOLTAGE my truck is reading 15-15.2 volts running Seth, do you know if it has a internal regualtor, or external? i could not see one so I am assuming internal, whcih mean I will probally have to replace the whole alternator right????
Chevys are all internally regulated anymore (they externally regulated for just a couple years after the advent of alternators rather than generators). Fords are now going to internal regulators, but they are the only company left doing it. But at least it isn't a Chrysler, the regulator in a Chrysler is in the ECM... that's right, it is in the engine controll computer . If you are comfortable tearing the alt apart yourself you can replace the regulator, but I am sure tthe part will need to be special ordered. If not, buy a decent alt, AC Delco or Bosche.
well with the truck being about 10 years old, and it looks to have had a Snow Plow or something needing 2 batterys at some point in it, I am sure the Alt will need to be replaced at some point soon anyway.... this is probally just the first "sign" of what it to come but if I trun my heater one it drops back to 14.5, then the stereo powers up and drops it to 14.3 looky their my own regulator B) :lmfao: :lmfao: But I have gotten it to Sound MUCH MUCH BETTER,,,, Fine Tuned the Crossovers, and Subsonics more, now the Gain is about 3/4 maybe a little less and Bass Boost up 1/4 to 3/8 up Still not as loud as I like it but I am a SPL monster, dont get me wrong they are loud, but they dont hurt my hears, so it aint loud enough they do sound great though
Dump the subsonic alltogether, set it on the lowest it will go if you can't disable it.. They go low as fuck too man. I'll bet when you get them humpin in some deep sine bombs they will blow your mind
So, is that Audiobahn amp 1200w? Class D, right? So is it 2 ohm stable, and giving the Shivas 600w each? Or is it 1 ohm stable, and giving the Shivas 300w each? Is it even giving them that... because the Audiobahn is probably a tad optimistic? Is it even giving them that... because you wired the Shivas in series accidentally? (snicker snicker) ...sorry, couldn't help it...
Sorry Geo........ I am going to have to disagree Truck can hinder performace based on alot of factors, just because it is a smaller Area, so in throey you SPL will be higher, does not mean it will also be, Cancellation do to the Small area, and other Factors with in the cabs hinder performace and Dont pull out the "audiobahn is over rated" crap. my amp tested out with HIGHER output than rated..... it has a Retail price of $1000, and when I bought it Dealer price was $430 for a 1200 w amp, 4 years ago.... So it is not like it was "cheap" Yes it is rated for 750w at 2ohm, 1200w @ 1 hom So each sub is getting about 375w's Seth The Low End Extension is Fine, Too bad i dont listen to Rap I need a Set of Good Midbass's I guess to fill in the rest **** Make mental note for Next Purchase *************
Don't put the subs on one side or the other.. keep the install symmetrical. I can't tell you how much bass I got from a single 10W0 in my reg.cab Nissan, and that's a much smaller cab than yours... mine was smack dead center in the cab, that'll help eliminate any possibility of cancellations, if that's a concern. How small are the enclosures? 375w per each should be plenty though, in anything larger than "cramped", really.
Did you test for cancellation by opening doors/windows? You would think that you know by now that price doesnt dictate quality Mikey. Not knocking the amp though. No experience at all with it or any other audiobahn amp.
I currently drive a truck ('02 Ranger ext. cab...shutup you GM weenies!). I'm currently running a 10k, in .5 cubes (with 1/2 lb. poly) powered by a Tantrum 1200.1. It actually gets quite loud, regardless of "it's size...sealed...entry level sub" Those Shivas should get uncomfortably loud while maintaining linear response (unless you truly are psycho). I'm not sure why those aren't "loud enough" unless you are truly a basshead. A few things to look for, if you haven't already checked... Make sure any DSP, if your HU has any, is disabled. One of my friends pushed the SFEQ feature in my Pioneer on and bass output dropped dramatically! Also made the tweets nasty, mids muddy, and overall output was "bleh" If there is a sub out volume level, put it at max so your amp sees the max voltage from your HU. ...and of course, double check that wiring. I just can't see how two shiva's aren't enough...Can you say, "Brahma, Kephart style" Ported with an external port is also something to think about... If you want something that isn't rap to test out the lows, grab "Pirates of the Carribean" soundtrack...many of the tracks drop into the low 30's with authority. Great sq disc altogether (good music, too).
1.2 cubs each geo... fired right in to the Driver and passenger seats in classic Truck Box Style..... Like I said they are loud. Probally plently load for any of you I think I will build me a new box and add a third though While I am at it, Here is my Idea for my Box this Winter Instead of firing them in to the Seat Back, Fire them in to the Rear Wall I figure I could make the Box to where the Back if ot Sits right up against the Seat Back, then the subs about be about 2in-3in from the Back wall of the Cab I think this will elminate all cancellation, in much the same fasion that firing your subs to the Rear in a car does(see Eddie Runners tutorial is you dont know what I am talking about) and luvdeftonz I know price does not indicate quality, but at the same time if can be a Factor, you can not product a 1200w QUALTIY amp to sell for $100 Audiobahn Subs had some Glue issues, which gave them a Bad name (funny how that does not work for other compaines that have glue issues HUH???) I have used quite a few Audiobahn Products, their subs and Speakers are not SQ in any Fashion, but they are not made for SQ so.... their amps are just fine.. Infact I am quite impressed by it, as much abuse as I have put this one through it should have died already, a long time ago and the protection circuts protect it from just about every thing, unlike some amps with just 3 way production, it is under/over voltage, B+, Temp, and Load protections Also has Dual Cooling Fans, so the amp as never ever gotten even remotly warm, I could use it as a Arm Rest if I wanted and that was when I was driving it full bore at 1ohm
