I've been wanting one of these fancy gadgets for a long time. So I got a Soundstream BX-12 after taking advice that the Hitron is probably not a good product. I chose this model 'cause it has bass level and subsonic knobs on the remote. And I got a Boss BG100 for the home stereo. I know Boss is not anywhere near the best, but for $50, why not? If I don't like it, I'll send it back to Sonic or dump it on Ebay. Now the old classic rock and funk/disco l listen to can have that earthshaking bass, I hope.
I got home from work and the UPS package was here. I played around with the Boss first. Then hooked up the Soundstream to the home stereo. These things are like magic. Even though the sub out on the receiver is full range, it's hooked to the tape monitor loop so I can record processed CDs. I tried some classic rock, disco, and funk from the '70s. It really gives them some low end punch! If you get too crazy with the processing, it starts to sound unnatural. But I can add a fair amount of bass generation and it sounds great. The best CD I tried so far is John Coltrane's A Love Supreme album(60's jazz). The sub got almost nothing from this recording. But now it has some thunder. I wasn't expecting much out of the Boss, but it exceeded my expectations. This may sound strange, but I tend to prefer the Boss over the SS. It may be my imagination, but the Boss seems to have a more natural sound. But I like them both. The SS will go in the car and Boss Hogg will stay in here on the home stereo.
Last year, I also bought 2 bass processors from SonicElectronix. Fortunately, with the result. However, I need another better sound ah, who can tell me?
good to hear they both work for you. do you have the option of turning them off when a bass heavy song comes on? with my AC epic 160 i can, and i had to set my sub xover to its highest freq. (200HZ). the manual says run it before any xover, and send it a full range signal then use an external to split the signal, but i use my head unit for xover duties. apparently it can be used on the mids and highs too as long as you run a very good (steep slopes) xover.
Hi Pedro. If you turn the remote bass level to minimum, there will not be any processing at all. I did a comparison. I switched the tape monitor loop off and on, and it sounded exactly the same. Yes some songs don't need any at all. If you add much to a heavy bass song, it sounds awkward and/or distorted. However, the subsonic filter is still activated at all times. And Grace, what do you mean you need another better sound?
