i dont know much about subs so i just look at the size of the magnet and the rubber dealy connecting the cone to the frame.
The rubber dealy!!!!! LOL!!!!! Not making fun of you! Just never heard of a surround called that! First and foremost, the size of the magnet has NOTHING to do wih the quality of the speaker. If yo want a good quality sub, you need to look at several things, first our budget, how much ya wanna spend? Once that is answered, howmuch power handling and what kind of music do you listen too? Then what are your restrictions for an enclosure and what is the intended purpose of the sub sytem? all night long boom boom, sound qality, SPL???? Its a decision we can help you make, just let us know what some of the answeers to the questions are! There are alot of good speakers out there! some more suited for a particular purpose than otheres........
Magnet size is not a big factor in choosing a sub at all. Neodynium(sp?) magnets are like 1/10 the size of normal ferrite magnets but like 20 times the strength. Well one thing you could do is listen to a sub and compare different drivers. First things first answer vikings questions.
budget : around $250(USD) per sub music : all from techno to bluegrass(guessing that thats both sides of the spectrum restrictions: 12" subs i want 2 of em. i already have the box its a grey fuzzy carpet covered one. i want it to be heard by a 100-300ft radius.
So you want mainly loudness and spl. Alpine Type X http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=14842 Or two Type R's in a large ported enclosure built to specs will pound quite hard. Around 280 but loud as hell....Friend of mine has two hooked up to 2 mrd 1005 and its LOUD
They actually sound really good...when properly installed in an enclosure built to specs. Pretty quick, tight, and smooth....and also loud as hell too. I actually want to buy one type x 10 but I really can't decide on what new setup I want.
