I am getting sick of using the tv speakers for watching movies, so I finally want to do a home theater system. Eventually I want to run all Adire for all the speakers, but can't afford it right now. So I plan on buying an inexpensive Harman Kardon reciever right now. I have lying around a set of a/d/s/ components and a/d/s/ subs, so I will just build enclosures for them for now.

The speakers are a/d/s/ 336is.2 components. Unfortunately I don't have any theile/small parameters for the mids, so I don't know how large to build the enclosure. I also don't know whether to port, or go sealed. a/d/s/'s website doesn't list this information either. Does anyone know where I can find this informantion? I don't have the proper equipment to test the speakers myself.

Also, aren't the Harman Kardon recievers able to handle the 4 ohm loads? From what I understand, they are.

My assumption is they are designed for IB use, so build a fairly large sealed enclosure... .7 feet or so. If you notice bottoming, just add wood. Critically dampened, like this enclosure should make them, will be very natural. Plus, like I said, being they are likely designed for IB use makes this the easiest, simplest way to do it.

Wow, thanks Seth. That is great advice. I was more thinking around .2, but your reasoning makes sense. Especially since it doesn't hurt to start big, and add mass to make it smaller if needed.

So do you guys think it will be a problem running these 4 ohm speakers on the reciever? The subs are dual 4's, so I can just series them if need be.

    BTW Seth, YGM.

Which HK are you looking at? I believe most of their gear has a switch on the back of the units that allows you to select 8 ohm or 6/4 ohm settings. If you let me know which model, I am sure I can find out for you.
