I'm trying to find out what kinda power supply these amps require to operate wide open. I'm having voltage problems. Can you charge 14v batteries with a 12v system? And also does anyone know the max voltage these amps can handle?
So can I run 14v batteries with 12v batteries? I have a small bank of kinetiks but would like to keep my voltage above 14. I'm limited to one alt on this vehicle so I can't run a dual alt setup. I basically have to rely on batteries and (3) kinetik hc2000s can't do the job for some reason.
hmmmm.... heres the thing about that. the batts with less voltage will suck the juice from the 14v batt. so unless there is an isolator in there they will equalize themselves. i have the same prob with my kinetik 1600 and my reg autozone batt under the hood. it will rest at 12.4ish and my kinetik will rest at 12.9, but both equalize to 12.4ish. if i could fit my other 1600 under the hood i would be fine. what size/style alt is it? stock or aftermarket? i know someone makes a voltage regulator that allows you to step up the voltage up to around 15v or more. it can be used on stock or aftermarket alts. i forget the name tho.
Stock alt but I have a 200a Ohio gen that's getting rebuilt. The Ohio is regulated at 14.6v but even with that I have a voltage drop with the amp.
if you still have a severe drop then something isn't right somewhere. recheck all your wiring. you may have a bad connection somewhere. are all your ground points sanded to bare metal? all the crimps on the power nice and tight?
All my wiring is right...amps grounded to bank and banks grounded to alt by 0ga. I've had it checked by a shop on top of that...nor to mention hrs on the phone with kinetik..maxxsoniks..and Memphis...nothing came up.
Lets back up here a bit folks...... If A battery is static/designed at about 14 volts...and its tied in with a 12 volt sytsem...IT WILL NOT WORK! Or more correctly it will not maintain a proper charge level! Amps are designed to run within a set parameter of voltage. at least from the factory, you may have an exception of sorts, I dont know... But to maintain a charge on 14 volt batteries will require at least 15.5 - 16 volts... your car WILL NOT like it over time. I know... been there done that..I used to run an old dodge alt. full feild on old orion amps at 18-19 volts......they make more power...yes..but only about 10 % give or take...this translates into basically nothing for your SPL.... dont screw up your car or your amps by doing this.....this is something left for those that modify amplifeir power supplies and and automotive electrical sytems...you want more power? get a bigger amp and run it at the stock voltage..that simple!
How can I run a bigger amp if I want more power? An amp is only as good as its power supply. If this amp shuts off because of voltage drop then how is a bigger amp Gona help...Hell I got 2 amps...just need a way of keeping my volts over 11
