I was just looking at a Hifonics amp and they are claiming it gets:

    # 1-Ohm Power Rating 1x1200
    # 2-Ohm Power Rating 1x900

Now, it this overrated? This amps cost $183 shipped, that sounds like a pretty good deal for the power it puts out. Are Hifonics amps any good?

I was also looking at a Hifonics ZXI4406 for my component speakers at $145 shipped. Do they put out good quality sound?

    # 2/3/4-Channel Operation
    # 50 Watts RMS x 4-Channel @ 4-Ohms
    # 110 Watts RMS x 4-Channel @ 2-Ohms
    # 220 Watts RMS x 2-Channel @ 4-Ohms

I remember the old school amps were real good. I read a few reviews but I really won't be satisfied til I hear good feedback from someone here.

i was also looking at the kicker ZX750.1 and the ZX350.4. I'm still confused on what direction to go with and I'm sick and tired of my china made amps that i bought over here with my crappy sony sub.

If I had the money to **** away then it wouldn't be a problem. I want to try to find something pretty cheap but not too cheap that I can be proud of. It's tough to do things you really want to do when you have a family to worry about. Tuition, mortgage, car payments etc...

I had the 1206d pushing 2 12 inch PPI dcx subs at 1 ohm, rocked hard all day, barely got warm to the touch and never shut down, unlike my old fosgate. I think I Paid 300 for mine at a local shop. I got a good deal on a Hifonics Titan amp at 1500 watts at 1 ohm so I put that in place of the 1206, thinking bigger was better but I cant really tell any difference in sound quanity or quality. The only difference is the titan is bigger. The 1206 is now in my wifes car pushing a Kicker 12 inch L7 at 1 ohm and I can tell you it pushes that thing to its limit. Have no worries just buy it, esp for that price. Where did you see that price anyway??

Thanks... At least I know that it is a pretty good amp. I got those prices on ebay. The prices are for new amps, not refurbished. I'm also trying to work a deal with a guy on ebay who is selling a Hifonics XXV Colossus. He's asking me for my best price so i hope he'll agree with it. Its:

    # 2 x 600-Watts.....RMS @ 4-Ohms
    # 2 x 1100-Watts....RMS @ 2-Ohms
    # 2 x 1600-Watts....RMS @ 1-Ohm
    # 1 x 2000-Watts Bridged Mono @ 4-Ohms
    # 1 x 3200-Watts Bridged Mono @ 2-Ohms

I have no idea what i'll do with it if i buy it. It's a little too much power for me and what i'm wanting but who knows...

Hifonics is overrated...well there amps will put out "rated" power but at over 10% THD

this is where i'm pretty dumb... 10% THD???

What article did you read that states they make 10% distortion at rated power? Or do you have your own test bench, if so what amp did you test and what test did you run? Just wondering cause I really crank the snot out of mine and they are very clean.

Car audio and electronics tested there higher end amp and it didn't do rated...there are also many many other people on other forums who have clamped these Brutus amps and they don't put out rated power

They are a great amp for the money though

cmon anz 10 % distorion, did they really get that rating. Well now that I think about it you might hit 10% distorion cause I think they test bass amps only on certain harmonics instead of 20 to 20000 hz bandwitdh. Was this a recent article or an older one. I didnt renew my subscription when they went to the new format many year ago. It was all Hondas. They should have renamed the mag Honda sound and security and I got tired of seeing the same installs. Is it still the same or have they changed?

    nope still about the same...arrg:mad:

they dont even seem to write a story anymore.just the facts and some pics.

i can remember reading some of the old CA&E mags, and they told you damn near all the info about the auido.also how it sounded with music,ect..

it just sucks now.give me back the good ole days of that mag,and car stereo review.back in the day they could write an article.

I'm sure of it...I remember it quite clearly. The amp is overrated if tested for output under 1% THD...They showed some graphs of the power output between 1% THD and 10% THD

Well, as long as its a good amp for the money then that's my only concern. What about their 4 channel amps? do they give good clean sound or should i be looking at something else?

exactly how bad does 10% distortion sound with subs?
now i can see how it can affect mids and highs.

good question. I would like to hear how it will affect subs and mid and highs. Shed some light on this for me. This is where i don't know a thing.

a guy wants to sell me a Hifonics XXV Colossus for only $150 off of ebay. the damn thing is brand new but he wants the money sent to him thru western union (very fishy) cuz he's in London and he needs the money but the item will be shipped from Edwardsville, Illinois. makes me very nervous, I know it's only $150 bucks but it seems like i'm getting scammed.

then dont do it.on mids and highs im sure youll hear 10% distortion.not sure on bass

so 10% distortion would mean what? The 4 channel amp gives out this:

    # 2/3/4-Channel Operation
    # 50 Watts RMS x 4-Channel @ 4-Ohms
    # 110 Watts RMS x 4-Channel @ 2-Ohms
    # 220 Watts RMS x 2-Channel @ 4-Ohms
    # Bridgeable A/B-Class Amplifier Topography
    # 3-Channel Mode (L & R + Subwoofer)
    # Ultra-Fi MOSFET Outputs
    # Illuminated Hifonics Logo
    # PWM MOSFET EXVP (Exponential Vari-Power Supply)
    # SPC Twin Turbo-Torroids with Simpatico Coil Design
    # Fullt Adjustable Accu Cross Crossover Include

    * 12dB Hi-Pass Crossover
    * 24dB Low-Pass Crossover

So what exactly does this mean as far as sound quality and the number of watts the amp will put out?

    dont do it...its a scam.

I got fuked over by something like that

    sh!t fukin blows hard dick

Paypal is the safest way...every case has a case number to it and is on record.

Also those Hifonics amps are excellent amps for the money
