hey everyone ive got a problem,my subs just do not hit right, they sound flat, heres what ive got 2 infinty 12" reference 1242 subs(dual 4 ohm voice coils),1 bazooka el 300,1 alpine v12 mrv-100m,both are mono amps, they are wired at 2ohm loads,i have a 1 farad cap 4 guage wire for grounds and power,an optima red top battery, the subs are installed in a ported box,in the trunk of my 97 lumina, all this was in my 94 sunbird and at my home town db drag i hit 115, but in my lumina it doesnt even make my mirrors shake, any ideas? by the way dont laugh at my equipment,it really sounded good in my sunbird
first.............DITCH THE CAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(sell it to someone, plugit into the wall and watch it explode!!!!! run over it with a truck!!!!!! just DONT wire it into your cars electrical sytem!!!! ) second, check to be sure that ALL voice coils are wired up IN PHASE!!!!!!!!!! After that simple check of the voice coils wiring, then let us know.....
OK, you say the dubs sound "flat", please elaborate............. Not as loud, too much subbas, not eonough subbas.......what????? Flat means to me, that the frequency response is smooth and not over exaggerated at any freq............. Simply going from one car to another,, the acoustics change, sometimes dramatically.........a simple method if you can, is to move the sub box, try pointing the subs forwards, backwards, up.........listen varefully with many sourced of music to each sub position, and determine what sounds the best........If that dont work, without the car in front of me I cant really help you out too much.....other than check for a blown amp channel or two or bad wiring.................the only other thing i can think of is a phasing issue between the highs and subs..........try this also...invert the pahse to your subs and see how it wounds....
If your subs are MOVING LIKE MAD, and you are getting almost no bass, its a wiring issue with the subs, PHASING that is.............its easy to overlook on an ametuers part....VERy easy.......
