guys looking for some advice. i have a phoenix gold xenon x100.4. i have the amp installed in my boat and it has been in there for about 4 or 5 years. i got the boat out of storage and made some changes to the speakers. it was until now only pushing 4 6 1/2 audiobahn speakers (i believe 100 rms each) mounted in the boat. i finally bought me some tower speakers, so i wired the 4 speakers to 2 channels and the tower speaker, which are fusion t-3 combos with speakers made from diamond audio (150 rms), to the other 2 channels. it was rockin for about 15 minutes until i noticed some smoke coming from the amp. it seemed to still be working when i turned it off. the amp is located in the closed bow of the boat so should not get wet. advice please on what to do.

    should i
    1. have the amp repaired (where to have it repaired) phoenix gold's website says flat rate of $190 for repair if sent to them (ridiculous)

    2. buy a new one (prob around $300)

    3. buy a different amp (newer technology) brands and models please

    thanks for your input

is it still working? if so maybe it was burning off some dust in the internals?

BTW a new 4ch will not cost 300. more like 89~130.

it means that there will be hardly any distortion at all. That means that it will sound good and produce clearer sound. I dont know about that rating though. I have never heard of a budget amp like that to be rated at .01% THD.

i know right! my M50's are rated @.02.

it could be tho who knows.

it gets higher when you lower the impedance or bridge the amp.

hey guys, one more question. there are several different sereis of acoustik amps. any ones better than the other. the amp will be going in a spot with not alot of air circulating (closed bow of my boat), my xenon amp had a fan. do you think these would work for that application. thanks

to be honest. of all the models of those amps ive seen. they all have the same specs.

all the 4chs are the same as are the 2ch's of the same pwer rating.

when in doubt add a fan, they are like 6 bucks or less if you know where to find em.

I like alpine PDX 4 channel amps, they have a 100 rms x4 and a 150 rms x4 PDX model, among others. if you want a reliable amp, the only other experience i have with 4 chanels amps is eclipse, and i had an EA 4000, and that amp is a true pro, with built in cross overs, and great stability, idk about it's ratings, but it's 75 rms x4 with 100 peak, and it runs like a champ, they're hard to find now a days, i think something like 300$ from some of the shops claiming to still have them, and theres occasionally some up on ebay.
