Hey I have a 2003 infinity g35. I would like to run the factory head unit and some decent speakers will i be able to run an amp on the factory head unit? will there be remote cable and aux that will allow me to run an amp? What spec for an amp (watts, ohms, number of channels) should i get for running 4 6.5" speakers with an rms value of 85-110 watts. if you guys can suggest some part numbers, that would be good. cheers
http://www.crutchfield.com/app/car/carselector.aspx?lp=/app/Car/MyCar.aspx The online advisor should be able to answer your stock HU wiring questions. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to use the factory HU, although I've never owned an Infinity. My guess is if you use your stock HU, you'll be running at line level as most factory radios do not have pre-outs for an amplifier. The car's stock amps(if it has any) that I have seen run at line level.
yes you can, you need to get something called out a LOC or line out converter, look at audiocontrol they make lots of products for oem integration and they are very good quality. Most of their products have 8 volt output to the amps so you will get a nice clean signal.
fstrfvo's got it right. as for speakers and amp choice, thats up to you...what are you looking to spend on the speakers and amp?? you're also going to need a wiring kit, size depending on what you decide to run. but check out knukonceptz.com for good quality and good priced wiring kits
You're right, it's very rare to see line level outputs on OEM products. However, I used to own a 1988 Mazda MX-6 Turbo that had a DIN connector line out. I made a DIN-to-RCA adapter and ran it through a SpeakerLink line driver (It was very low voltage, like 50mV) and it worked great. The OEM industry will most likely never voluntarily put RCA outputs on their equipment because they don't want to encourage after-market products. In fact, they do their best to prevent this, which is why GM has the Class-2 Databus system and others with Can-Bus systems. There have been many famous wars fought between the after-market and the OEM folks, most notably the law that prevents auto dealerships from voiding warranties simply because an after-market product was installed, which is what they used to do. Now they have to prove a cause-and-effect; That the addition of the product actually caused damage to the vehicle.
This is one reason why I probably will not buy a GM product anytime soon. I was almost a victim of this in 92. My wife bought at new Ford Escort. About 3 months in, we were driving down the road and thick black smoke blew out of the defroster vents. We had it towed to the dealership since it was under warranty and about 3 days later they called and said that EVERY circuit in the dashboard had melted. A $3000 repair job, that would probably NOT be covered by the warranty. WHY???? They claimed it was my single din JVC that I installed that caused a total meltdown of the entire electrical system!! Yeah right!!! A 10 amp circuit did that, especially since the radio worked fine til the day we sold the car. I guess he thought we were dumb kids they could fool. After a bunch of threats and the fact my wife was an employee of the dealership's corporate rental company at the time, they covered it under warranty. I don't know if my state had this law now or back then, but they covered it. Its also funny how a couple months after this incident happened there was a factory recall on the ignition switch on 92 escorts that could cause a meltdown resulting in fire.....I was tempted to go back to throw the recall notice in their face.
Way to go! Yes, you must be very careful about dealerships. Most of the service personnel actually know very little about anything electronic; They know only how to plug connectors together. I installed a simple radio once in a girl's car and later her electric mirrors stopped working. As many people will do, she went to the dealer before contacting us. The dealer didn't fix it, yet charged her $200 to diagnose the problem and said it was due to the radio install. The radio was installed using a harness that simply plugged into the original. When she brought the car to me, it took me all of two minutes to determine that the fuse for her electric mirrors was blown. I replaced it and that was it. I also wrote a receipt for her to take to the dealer explaining that they should refund her $200 due to poor diagnosis.
I haven't seen that. Pioneer and Alpine have made OEM units for years but I haven't seen any with RCAs.
yeah its new for this year. Through the subwoofer RCA output, xB owners can add an external amp to drive one or more subwoofers. Unique to the Pioneer system is the customizable welcome screen that also allows users to create a personal message of up to 16-characters.
