I am having some problems with an Amp that I tried to recently install. It is the 2000W Hifonics that I am wiring with 0 gauge. Everything went normal until I reinstalled the negative battery terminal. First, that was a very large arc when I put it on the negative post and then the 150A inline fuse heated up then popped. The keys were never in the ignition and the remote wire was never attached, so I am concerned why 150A of electricity was flowing. When the daylight comes back, I am going to recheck the ground (was using seat mount bolt). When I first checked, my volt meter indicated the selected location as adequate. I have two other amps installed on another dedicated power line that do not have a amp leakage when off. However I installed these to the top post of the starter solenoid rather than directly to the battery which I did in this case. To test the differential dx, i am: 1. Recheck the Ground Location 2. Recheck how the positive cable enters the amp (any loose filings hitting the neg terminal) 3. Recheck the the positive cable in entirety for an cuts that may short circuiting If these don't help at all, what else should I look for? Is there a problem with hooking the 0 gauge to the batt rather than the solenoid post? Would a leakage between the pos and neg terminals be normal? Or does this mean the am is bad? Thanks for any help
I would hook it up directly to the battery if i were you... let us know how it went... If you still have a problem we'll all brainstorm here to figure out what's causing your problem...
