I'm a new member located in Connecticut. I just got a Scion Xb (goodbye fast lane) mostly for a trip in Europe. I'm thinking that if it is not produced for Europe it will be harder to have it stolen. And if they will, I can catch them riding on my bicycle^_^ . I am very new at the world of car stereo and I'm here trying to find advice regarding a sound setup the car stereo sucks and there is a lot of road noise too. My intentions are to have a stealth setup, minimum show off. Four years ago I was traveling by train and the train was robbed, they knew form the custom agents what every passenger was carrying. I'm not sure that I can give back to the forum, my knowledge regarding audio is very limited and as a plus I have a hearing impairment. If any of you guys have a question regarding antique tools I'll be glad to answer (this is my hobby). Off I go to do some more research for my stereo setup. Sorry for the long post.
i always like to help when I can. and we don't want anything in return... EXCEPT MONEY!!! haha kidding... yeah well first off.. road noise... get your car dynamated.. look it up and if your handy at taking your panels off and seats out. you can do it yourself. not really hard, just time consuming. dynamat reinforces the car's thin metal and makes the noise stay inthe car (music) and the road noise stay out of the car. other than that... what kind of hearing impedement do you have? I mean there's no point in spending ca$h if you won't really hear the difference anyway. let us know what you plan to do and good luck!!
Soundproofing the car will be first thing when the warm weather hits the northeast. Now I have a temporary setup that will be changed according to the warm weather probably march - april. In the temporary setup is also included a Bazooka B1300 which is disposable when the final setup is in place. I'll like to achieve a SQ system on the mellow and accurate. This is why I was thinking of going with paper cones. The car at this point has 7 speakers, 2 in the dash. 2 in the door, 2 rear and a bass. All is stock except the bass - 10" Alpine S (it came with the custom molded enclosure) My intention is - and here I need your advise- to place a pair of components 2"-4" in the dashboard, 6" midbass and midrange in the doors, a pair of MB Quarts QM 160 in the rear and a different 10" bass in the back. I also I have a digital processor pxa-h510 that will be part of the system. As HU I will use a carPC. As for amps I'm thinking that a pair of the new Alpines PDX-4.100 that I understand will hit the shelves in a couple of months. The decision regarding the amps is taken because this amps run cold and can be easily staked under the driver chair where the space is just 19" long. I will love to go old school but the space under the chair forces me to use cold running amps. I was even considering an old school amp glued on the car ceiling, but it will radiate a lot of heat in the summer. I am open to suggestions especially with the speakers. I have this hearing impairment since I was 2yo (bad batch of penicillin) so going in to the stores and listen to speakers is not really an option for me. I will definitely use an EQ to be able to compensate for my hearing impairment and to be able to modify and accommodate for friends when they are in my car.
Interesting...Exactly HOW is your hearing effected? That may help in determining the best type of drivers for the front stage of your car. Do you have a serious high frequncy loss? Tinnunitis? ruptured/scared ear drums? Sounds like you have a pretty good idea of what you want, thats good, stick with the overall plan.
very high and mid frequency loss. As an example I do not hear an electronic wristwatch alarm, they like algebra, they do not exist for me. Also my hearing the human voice range is also diminished. I prefer to compensate for this deficiencies using an EQ. In this way I can put on "normal" settings for my girlfriend and my child. One of my ex-es head a ruptured ear drum, and the doctor applied some antibiotic from a tube and sealed everything with a piece of tape. After 2 weeks she was like new born. I'm sorry to hear what happened to you, I hope everything will work well. What do you think about the old Blue Thunder MTX speakers?
