 Okay ill make this as descriptive as possible. I have 3 12"infinity kappa perfect's DVQ on an Infinity REF1211a mono amp @ 2.67ohms pushing over 1000rms (according to inifinity). Now ive had this head unit for so long i dont remember the exact model but its a pioneer DEH model and was in the upper price range when i bought it about 2 or 3 years ago. It was definitly the most expensive model that wasnt a flip outscreen. I had the exact set up in my other car with zero problems. Now suddenly (after my amp was checked by a local shop) there is loud noises from the subs when the amp is on. Its definitly not alternator whine because the noise is the the same when the car is on or off and doesnt change when the engine is revving. These noises only happen when the RCA cables are plugged in and the amp\headunit are on. Which makes me believe this isnt a bad ground on the amp. When you leave the headunit play the noise is just like a fast low pitch hum\poping. But when you change a song or load a cd you can basically hear the cd player noises from the subs. Ya know when you skip tracks and you can hear the cd spinning and making those high pitch sweak like noises? I hear those from my subs but oviously there not high pitch.. Its VERY annoying and i cannot figure out whats wrong, Ive changed all the grounds, moves all the wires to be as far as possible from factory looms. Im begining to believe its a problem in the headunit its self but im trying to avoid that decision=\. I pulled the unit out and let it play and you can still hear this noise. If you move the harness around on the headunit you can also hear some more noises. None of the door speakers make any noises other then what they should be. So i know this is long but i hope someone can give me a good tip because its driving me mad!! PS This setup is in my 93 ford explorer.

SOLVED - (post from another forum where many people are having the same problem as me, seems to be an internal ground that goes bad for a few months) I went through the entire wiring of the system today just to rule all that out, and did find that the grounds for my amps were a little loose in their crimp, so I mashed the crap out of it in a vise and bolted it back down. The HU ground was on its own terminal though (attached at the same point) so it should have been 100%. Anyway it didn't fix the problem, and I didn't honestly expect it to. If anything the noise while processing MP3's is even more severe. It makes noise (the thumping/fluttering) even when opening the face/ejecting the CD. It's internal noise from something in the HU that is getting into the output section.

try swapping your rca cables, sounds like you have a bad one.

how bout the ground on the head unit, if you get noise when you wiggle the wires something might be loose. Also wiggle the rca's where they connect to the head unit, it may not be the rca but the female connection on the head unit, esp if its really old.

The explorer has 2 grounds in the factory harness. Black\green which is the chassis ground and Black which is a different ground but isnt used due to engine noise.. I tried both of these grounds for the headunit AND made my own from the unit rite to the chassis with nothing around it, and still have my sub noise isssue =\. I think today im going to hook the power up on another unit and plug the subs in and see if they make this noise.. Because like i said you can acually hear the noises from the cd player coming out of the subs, which i dont think is normal for any install error.

EDIT - Also the Rca connection on the headunit is a small harness plug with multiple rca inputs and ive wiggled the hell out of that thing and no change in noise. Id also like to add this is.. When i have the unit pulled out and on, the noises are certianly noticeable, but when you shove it back into the dash it gets worse the further you push it in.. Ive rewired everything and taped it up nice but it didnt make a difference.

Okay i really hate to say this because its going to possibly cost me.. I plugged in another headunit with just power, remote and rca's hooked up..Soon as the headunit turned on.. NO noise.. Played a cd and turned it up..subs sounded fine and no noise what so ever =\.. So its oviously the headunit thats causing the problem, and like i said the rca's on my current unit is a small harness for all the rca input\outputs and it doesnt look defective in any way =(

ok I just skimmed through this but did you check the ground inside the head unit? That's what the internal ground means. Or did you fix it?
