i have a 02 cavalier with 2 12's and a 2000 watt amp and i need to know what type of sub box i need to get the most db's out of my system thanks
For SPL, I always recommend a ported box. And the port should be a little larger than the average port. You have enough power as long as its not one of those 2000 watt Sonys that acually put out 200 watts. So double check the specs, the RMS power is what you want to look at Back to the box, we adjust the size to be slightly larger than manufacturer recomendation and we tune a little higher. Now it will be loud.
ok what "manufacturer recomendation" do i go by? i am new at this so plz dont think im an idiot thanks
The manufacturer usually has a recommended box size that comes with the speaker documentation. If you don't have that you can go to thier website and find the info there. Or you can post the dimensions that will work in your trunk, the speaker model, a link to the manufacturers website and I may be able to figure it out for you.
this is what the site says but idk what it all means Recommended Enclosures Sealed 1.25 F3 Hz 35.55 Ported 2.00 Port 4x12.5 Tune Freq. (Hz) 35.31 F3 Hz 28.87
OK here we go. The box needs to be 36-inches wide by 13-1/2-inches tall. The box will be 22-inches deep. Before building this make sure these dimensions will fit in your car. It should. The box should look like this The port will be 12-inches tall by 4-inches wide. It will also be 16-inches long. Follow the directions HERE for building your box. Have any questions ask
how did u come to this? what formula did u use? and i measured mine and is is 36 wide 13.5 tall but only 16 deep not the 22 like u have and the port is 12 tall 3 wide and 12 long....how will this effect the sound of the bass? thanks
I've been building performance sound systems for over 12-years. My design methods were learned from books. The Loudspeaker Design Cookbook by Vance Dickason, Bullock on Boxes by Robert M Bullock III, just to name a few. Yes I can read. What formulas did I use, basic 8th grade math. Look at your post. The recommended box volume for a ported box is 2.0 cu ft. So lets do some basic 2nd grade math. You have two speakers so, 2 cu ft plus 2 cu ft equals 4 cu ft. So for 2 speakers you will need 4 cu ft. Your box is just 3.1 cu ft. The volume of a cube is calculated by multiplying (4th grade math) the area of the base times the depth. Volume of a solid is 8th grade math. The area of the port has already been subtracted from the total volume of the box. By the way, your box is tuned to around 44 Hz, mine is tuned to 36 Hz. Much closer to what you posted My box has a volume of 4.24 cu ft. If I divide by two then I will see that I have 2.12 cu ft per speaker. MUCH closer than your box. A larger box is more efficient, plays lower and louder. Your first post indicated you wanted louder. My box will be louder. My box will easily outperfom the one you have
gee thanks for making me sound like a complete retard i didnt know what Ported 2.00 Port 4x12.5 i know how to do math i told i was new at all this stuff i just needed some help, not to be talked down to like im less then u but thank you for ur help
Not my intension to talk down to anyone, and if you took it that way then I do sincerely apologize. Sorry. I was just picking on you, no insult was intended. It is never my intension to make anyone on this forum feel uncomfortable. So again, I do apologize.
