Hello everyone, I have a 1996 Nissan Maxima. I replaced my factory Bose speakers with Boston Acoustics, both front and rear. The front door speakers are hooked to the original wire that was attached to the Bose speakers. And the rear speaker wires were cut because they had a plastic plug that was attached to the factory amp under the speaker. My question is, can I run the door speaker wire directly to the amp that I am using? Do I need to use the original speaker wire that was attached to the Bose speakers? If I can do this, do I need to do anything behind my headunit? I have a Pioneer AVIC-X920BT. Any help is always appreciated. Syberman
i think you can run the speakers from the stock amp, but bose speakers normally have low impedances. sometimes as low as 1 ohm per speaker. i know the rx8 with the bose system is like this. when you change the speaker the system as a whole will have less power output due to the fact that most aftermarket speakers are 4 ohm. so it will "see" very little power compared to the bose stock speaker. my friend had good luck replacing his stock head with an aftermarket head. he gained a little more control over the system since his head unit has an 8 band EQ built it. and it seems to have more line out voltage so his stereo is louder now even at low volume settings. which is kinda a pain in the ass when it came time to gain match the sub amp.
