    Ok, I picked up a pair of Alpine Type-R 12's in a ported box the other day, here are the specs

    Alpine SWR-1242D 12" Dual 4 Ohms Type R Series Subwoofer
    Power Handling:
    Peak: 1500 watts
    RMS: 500 watts
    Impedance: Dual 4 ohms
    Sensitivity 85 dB
    Frequency Response 23 - 500 Hz

    I currently have a Boss Audio R1400D Mono amp hooked to em, heres the specs
    Product Features: Amplifier Type: Mono Channel; Number Of Channels: 1;
    Peak Power at 1 Ohms: 1400 W x 1;
    RMS Power at 2 Ohms: 800 W x 1;
    RMS Power at 4 Ohms: 500 W x 1;
    Bridgable: Not Bridgable;
    3 Way Ready : No;
    Frequency Response: 20 Hz - 300 Hz; Signal to Noise Ratio: 100 dB; Low - Pass Frequency: 50 Hz - 250 Hz

    So according to the specs of the amp, they arent getting enough power right? and also, the type-r's are dual 4 ohm, so I got a 1 ch mono amp powering both 4 ohm subs, dont that make a 1ohm load or no? Im not sure how this works, either way I just need to know if I need a better amp for these subs and what would you guys recommend in the $100-175 dollar range? also Below are pictures of the box I currently have them in (The guy said the box was "custom" made, but I dont know", and then pictures of a Fierce Audio XED Dual Ported box I picked up at best buy for some other subs I had, THe box the alpines are in right now is a pretty big box, bigger then the Fierce audio, but Which box should these alpines go in? I can put them in either box, heres the specs of the box from bestbuy and the specs for the box there in are in the pictures,

    Fierce Audio Box Specs
    Product Height 16-1/8"
    Product Width 17-3/8"
    Product Weight 63.8 lbs.
    Product Depth 34-1/2"

    Sorry about all this but I am kind of a newbie and No one else can seem to help me with these questions, so I came here for help, let me narrow down my main questions to make it easier

    1.Do I need a bigger amp and what do you guys suggest?
    2. Which box should these Type-R's go in? the one there in or the Fierce Audio box
    3. I found a Alpine MRD-M1005 on craigslist, 700 watts x 1 at 4 ohms (1000 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms), This amp still dont carry enough RMS wattage to power these subs does it?
    4. 2 dual 4ohm subs runnin on the 1ch monoblock is that presenting a 1ohm load? or 2ohm load?

    Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks alot

    I think their wired for a 4Ohm Load, each speaker has 4 outs on it, two sets of positive and negative, one on the left side, one on the right side of the speaker, there is a single short wire going from one positive on one side, to one negative on the other side and the same on the other speaker, and then 1 wire coming out of the positive to my amp and 1 wire coming out the negative to my amp, same with the other speaker, Ill take a picture with my camera later of exactly how I got it wired so maybe we can figure this out better, that would probably be best right?

    It would. Sounds a 2ohm load. 2 4ohm voice couls are either wired for a 2ohm single or 1ohm with 2 subs

    Heres a picture I took 5 minutes ago, this is how both the subs are wired

    are they running like this? thats a 8ohm load!! which means your amp would be running at very low ampage.

    you need to run it like this

    swap the wires round to how ive shown and you will notice a very big jump in power output.

    did you say you have two, if you want me to show you how to wire them both for 1 ohm

    the way you have it means the amp you posted specs for is likley only pushing 200watts, when you wire it how i have show itll be running 800watts

    Actually wont that present a 1 ohm load? 2 dual 4 ohm 12's wired + to + and - to - = 1 ohm load dont it? my amp is not 1 ohm stable, so I would have to actually leave it the way it is to present a 4 ohm load because I can't do a 2 ohm load right?

    Yes but you can run it like this for 4ohms.

    But personally i would run them seprate to two channels. But with 4ohm dvc theres not much u can do but run 1 or 4 ohm together or 2 ohms each Sepretly
