Ok guys I am just not getting it. What am I doing wrong. To start im not a big sterio person. I can install, build boxes if have directions with measurements. Hook up all wireing , but I am not getting the bang I am looking for! For those tuning in, 1999 honda accord sedan (trunk) I am running a kenwood excelon KDC-X794 deck, kicker 6.5 2ways up front in door, kicker 6x9 2ways in rear deck. Amp is a kicker ZX700.5. Everything sounds great. Love the way the highs are and soforth. But when it comes to the lows, they just sound aweful! I have trued a center slot ported box with two 10,' pointed back and pointed up. Wired 2 ohm. Just muddy sounding bass. I put them in a sealed 1.50 cu box! Bass little better but have to crank up bass boost then it sounds like crap! Not loud at all. Sounds like two 12's on a kraco 50 watt amp! Help!!!!!! What to do. I am just trying to get some hit me in the back punch! Metalica shortest straw song with double kick drum is a joke on my set up. Can hear subs but not feel it hardley. What do I need to get that bang and hit! Rock, contry, no rap!!!!!! Thanks guys and gals. And please, don't say 8 12" and 5000 watts. I can't do something like that. Thanks in advance!
Check for phasing....perhaps make the rear speakers not play below 200Hz or so... invert phase to the subs, maybe even fire the woofers to the rear, or top, or front....try combinations....but sounds like some phase cancellation maybe... hard to say.
The subs are audiobahn aw100t. Svc 4 ohm. Not sure about phase? Exsplain please. Please, I know these are cheap subs. I put a big kicker box in back with two l5's and all it was boom boom boom. Not clear nice punch bass. Both subs are moving some direction. Phase??? Also I have pointed both sealed and ported box up and back. Ported best up and sealed pointed back. But still sounds muddy. Like bass guitar bass. Not much punch.
tell ya what...tryt this....reverse the positive and negative speaker wires to your subs...see what happens and report back...NO, you wont hurt anything!
I have noticed that with Metalica the base does not hit as hard as other bands/groups. Megadeath hits way harder than Metalica. ZZ Top hits harder than Metalica. Pat Benetar hits harder than Metalica. I've had different cars with different systems and Metalica has never hit as hard as you would expect.
The album that has shortest straw was not the best studio album for double bass pick up, I have a 15" in a 4th and it can hit clean and hard on ever notes in short straw but Fight Fire with Fire has more.. Sadly as someone has allready said, the HZ that band record at from the sound board is what makes it difference. Maybe try finding a Live Version or adjust the quality of the song's. And one nice thing about Megadeth(by that way not megadeath) the drum set used by the bands drummer uses a special skin on the bass drum which can produce a better range of HZ depending on strength play
Ok, I took my subs and put in a little bit bigger slot ported box a friend had. Now we are getting somewhere! Starting to get what I was looking for. Stp sounds great! God smack is even sounding good. Think the subs mite be up for a upgrade.
Now, would I get any better with different subs with my power? Around 400. Watts. Hx2? Can get them from friend.
i dont think it would make alot of difference... they handle quite a bit more then 200 a piece i imagine so u wouldnt be pushing them very hard... u need a bigger amp...
I have been playing around with hz and gain and adjustments, positioned them facing to rear. Got them to where I am pretty happy with them. Even got metallica sounding pretty good! I want to thank you all for the help. !!!!!!
