Gain settings using 2 amps

I was curious. If you're really dedicated to car sound and you use two decent amps (say 75W-100W RMS per channel with 4 comparable speakers) what kind of input sensitivity would you use for the amps? Because those amps with the input gain set all the way down are pretty damn loud. How much higher do people set the gain on those?

I have a Kenwood 50W RMS X 4 and with my input gain set all the way down it's pretty loud as it is.

keeping the gains downas far as possible is a GOOD thing! it just means your HU is providing a good clean powerful signal to the amps input. this helps to eliminate noise in the system. But as faras turning up the gains, generally speaking, turn the HU up to 3/4 volume, then adjust the gain on the amp till the speakers just start to provide the sounds of the amp going into distortion/clipping. That will get youin the ballpark.

also, keeping the gain on the amps down will insure that you don't notice the THD of the amp.

I always suggest starting with the amps at 25%, then setting HU controls where you want them, and then adjusting the amps up or down from there.

My HU amplifier is turned off and the gain on my amp is turned all the way down. So how much power is my amp producing if it's rated 50W RMS x 4? It can't be producing anywhere near 50 W RMS x 4 so I wonder why it's so loud.

HU amp has nothing to do with the external amp...the rca voltage is what affects it...nothing is wrong...just means that your system is working efficiently and not being pushed...that and your amp is NOT crap
