Hi, I am looking to get some good sound in my 1991 Mazda Miata, since the factory system sucks balls, especially with the top down.

Over at the miata forum I belong to, many have been suggesting focal components for their awesome full range capabilities.

I want a very stealthy system, as I don't want to be a target for theives.
I am going to get rid of my factory radio, and just get some nice sounding ($200-ish) components, and a good quality amp ($150ish) to run the components off of. I'm going to directly connect my ipod to the amp and just play it like that.

I just thought it'd be a good idea to see if focal component speakers (specifically the 165v1 model, link: http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&product_id=3111) are okay by you guys. I just want to be able to hear some decent quality music with the top down, while trying to avoid being a target from thieves.

    Thanks for any input.

And if you guys have any other recommendations, I would appreciate that too.

for a convertible you may want to look into a marine certified speaker. i know polk db series are. just throwing that out there.

if you want to keep it stealth then you may want to keep the stock head and add an amp and new speakers.

The Focal is a good speaker, but with the top down your going to need a lot more than speakers. The main reason I put 5 x 7 in the doors is that I needed bigger speakers. (More surface area equals more sound). Tweeters were also added. The amp behind the passenger seat powers the door speakers.

The rear speaker box was made to look like it belongs in the car. Power to those speakers comes from the deck.

This car sounds good even with the top down.

I used Polks because I like them, but Focal should also give good results
