I did it!! I mean to an extent... I still have to put a few more layers and then put the MDF top for the sub but i finished the first part of fiberglassing. All i can say is that it isn't as easy as it looks. The whole reason why i couldn't finish is because i ran out of resin from putting too much hardener the first time around.lol Everything here is usually closed on Sunday so I couldn't buy more materials so I gotta put it off til tomorrow. Here are a couple of pics, some of them are before the FG showing the foil i put over the plastic and a few are after the first layer of fiber mat with resin. Let me know what you all think..
lol. It is kinda fuzzy looking cuz it needs more resin. I have to pick some more up today but it is hard as a rock now. I'm still up in the air on what kind of sub i'm going to use. After the FG mold is finished i'm going to make another measurement to see if i can fit a 12" in there. As of now, my plan is still to put a 10" kicker comp in there.
well if you plan on swapping out the subs then make it easy on you by making some sort of ring that will allow you to change the baffle out. one for your 10 and one for a 12.
the whole enclosure won't be fiberglass though. the top will just be MDF and i'll mold the FG to the MDF so it will be sealed. I think the rings are only used if the whole enclosure is FG, right? I don't really know. I just have to see if i have enough depth in the enclosure as well as airspace to fit a 12". I have a friend that's selling his 12" kicker for real cheap, he's almost giving it to me so I hope i'll have enough room for a 12".
You have it right. You don't need a ring. Your building your enclosure the same way I built my Center Channel enclosure. Take your time, your doing a great job so far.
Thanks Ranger. I am going to take my time with it. I want it to be done right. Trying to do this for the first time wasn't as easy as i thought it would be but i'm getting the hang of it. I'll work slowly on it, i'm not pressed for time anyway.
