What does Boost/Cut range mean for an equalizer? Most models are from +/- 15-18 dB. I noticed the more expensive ones have a higher boost/cut range.

Boost - boost that frequency range?

    Cut - opposite of boosting?

This is only from knowing what boost and cut means.

    yep, pretty much

Boost is the increase in decibals for that particular freq. Cut is how much you turn it down. Think of it as an individual volume control for each of the stated frequencies. A "complex" bass and treble control if you will.

Again, eq's are good if used properly. They don not make your system louder or put out more power! They are for fine tuning of the system , nothing more, they can do more harm to a system than good when someone who does not properly understands them uses them, Ie, crank the bass up at 30, 45, 60 Hz etc! Great way to smoke an amp or launch a sub !
