I purchased two pioneer 10 inch subs. I currently have them in an enclosure i built, to the pioneer specs. 1.25 cu. ft chamber, with a 3 inch wide, 7.5 inch long port. It hits the kicks hard, but has a steep roll off anywhere below 35 hz. Would i get a more flat response, and would it cause damage to the devices, if i simply tuned it lower by adding more port length. Thanks in advance
If you want a flat response then I would suggest using a seal box. But that doesnt answer your question. Yes, a longer port will typically make the response flatter. But it is a trade off, as the response gets flatter, you lose relative gain. While its a minor issue, the longer port will also take up more airspace so the box is technically smaller. So in your case the longer port will not help you.
THanks for the feedback So, in other words, i need to build a new box. Ranger, would it harm the speakers if I tune lower than recomended? And will it have the desired low end extension? Please fill me in on this empty bowl of information.
you can typically tune lower without causing harm to the drivers. But to be honest, IMO to go any lower in tuning will not yeild much in the way of performance. If you have the room and time and money to experiment...DO IT!!!! Thats what this hobby is all about. But a couple of ten inchers doin below 35 Hz is asking ALOT. low frequncies need to move alot of air...
tuning, another sub i have a 3rd subwoofer, rockford fosgate 10 svc. And i have read forums about mixing sub brands. Theres kinda a debate about it. i have 37 inches wide to work with, and already have a box plan. I think 3 10's should fit nicely.37 wide,16deep, 16 tall, slot port, 11" wide, 1.23 Height, 19 length. Just wanting some opinions before buying some mdf
