Okay...the other day while I was working outside in the 100+ degree weather doing my landscaping thing lol....I got this FUC KING SWEET idea.

This sweet idea is going to be a badass ported box. Dual purpose of course.

19Ov.2 facing up and port(s) back. around 6-7 cu ft net space.

For daily driving I'll have two 6 inch round flared ports tuned to 30Hz. On WinISD this gives a flat reponse with an F3 of 30Hz...fine with me.

As for when I wanna meter this biatch...I'll plug up the two 6 inch ports and unplugg the beast...12 INCH ROUND PORT FTW!!!!!! Yes...tuned to 40Hz with an F3 of 35Hz...this is fine with me also as this port will be only used for competition and metering purposes.

Also I am gonna put "King Kong" on the box haha

The build will start after the 14 of July...because that is when I am coming back from FLORIDA baby...I'll make sure to have PLENTY of pics.

Now how sweet of an idea is that?? Yes I know I am Balling.

This idea is patented, trademarked, AND copyrighted by me...so don't even think about it lol

Ranger...you will like the 12 inch port

EDIT: Ok just redid some recalculations and I may have to go with the sub back and port to the side for an off-axis approach as I may not have enough clearance for the 12 inch port.

Sure it will work, as long as you can seal the port that is not being used.

I stopped by a car show yesterday (not planned or I would have had my camera with me) and they had a little crank it up going on. I stuck around for a few minutes because there was an Explorer with a single 15, in a good size ported box.

His first pass he did a 144.6 and on his second try he did a 144.8. He was peaking at a frequency of 48, 49, or 50 Hz. He didnt remember exactly what frequency he was when he peaked. He was just flipping through the frequencies. He said he built the box himself and I didnt ask the tuning frequency, but it looked well built.

Anyway if thats the resonant frequency of your Explorer, I seem to recall that it was between 48 and 50 Hz, Make sure the Box peaks at that frequency.

Ranger...I have a plan to seal up those ports very well...basically for the 6 inch round ports I'll have like an 8 or 9 inch round or square piece of MDF and use window sealing gasket stuff around the perimeter of the port blocker thingy...Then use Allen bolts and T nutz to attach it to the port. Same for the bigger port.

This is what will seal up the ports

    Lowe's Home

I used this same stuff to stop my license plate from rattling...Just lightly sand the back down around the edges and wipe it clean with some rubbing alcohol and then run a strip all the way around and a couple down the middle for good measure...fixed the rattling no problem. I tried a test piece and tried to peel it off...the foam ripped off but the adhesive stayed. Now I just need to deaden my whole rear hatch

And yeah from your formula my resonant frequency was spot on 50Hz...You are the man.

    It just might work.

As far as that Explorer, if it was tuned correctly, I think it should have got a 145 to 148. I know 144.8 is close enough, but I would have liked to see another dB or 2. But it still did extremely well

That is a pretty sweet idea. I like it and wouldn't mind doing that myself. Also I think thats the stuff you use to seal headlights up. GOOD STUFF

Ok...I did some recalculations and the tuning of the box for the competition port is approx 44Hz with a peak at 52Hz and will be 17 inches long...so yes I am gonna build a box to where I can move it around to see what is the loudest

I'll get a Sketch up pic of the box here in a couple days
