Looking for help for best sounding hook up for my system. I am driving a 2000 Impala. I currently have 2 10" Xtant subs. I am think about some possible configuration changes and am wondering what will sound the best. I listen mostly to country so I like the hard tight bass, then like to throw in some hip-hop and get some boom too.

Amp- Alpine 3553 4/3/2. I have read this amp is 35x4 or 120x2 at 4 ohms. Here are my options all using this amp.

Run the 2 10's parallel off of channels 1/2 bridged.
Run one 10 off of 1/2 bridged, and one off of 3/4 bridged

Buy on 12 and run it off of 1/2 bridged

?? If I buy a DVC 12 can I run on coil off of 1/2 bridged and one off of 3/4 bridged.

Like I said looking for the best option for useage of my amp and sound quality.

    Any help is appreciated.

I'd get one or two infinity kappa's (10inch or 12) - in a sealed box. They're tight and respondsive. Not really boomy. but for the amount of rap or hip-hop you probably listen to , it's probably fine. Also check if there's a JL stealth box for your car. (JL is louder) Those always make the most out of the sub and box and car.

    Thanks,
I know there alot of options out there but I want to do this on a minimal budget. My two option ares
    1) Keeping the 2 x-tant, building a new sealed box
    2) buy one 12, to save space, but only if it will sound equal or better.

What is the best way to hook up with my current amp, as described above?

They are X-tant M's, they came in a pre-loaded box. Not sure of the specs.

If you are on a minimal budget, I would suggest building a new box for the 10's.....

But a vented box as opposed to a sealed box. Yes, a vented box is "tight n Fast" too!!!

If the subs are 4 ohm SVC, I would run the amp in 2 channel mode and run each sub off of each set of bridged channels....I am quite sure they will handle the power of your amp.

so if I should build a vented box, how do i find the specs (size, port size, etc) for that sub. I have not been able to find much on line.

First step would be getting the Theil/small parameters for the sub, what is the exact model number of the sub? We can assist you in box design and specifications if you want.

All i can tell you right now is that on the cone it says X-tant M. I will have to take it out of the box tonight and find the model #. They are SVC 10"

I just did some checking on the Xtant website. In the archive section I found info on the sub.

    Optimal size for vented box

    1.5 cubic feet, with 3"X 9" port. Max handling 200 w.

Those specs alone are why I am considering one 12, space. I really don't want a 3.0 cubic foot box.

So knowing all that, should I go with my 10's sealed or get one 12 ported/sealed.

So many options, just want to do the best thing.

A simple, inexpensive way here may be too simply build one box for one ten incher, vented of course.....Run 2 channels of your amp bridged onto your sub, and the other 2 channels of the amp could run your front speakers...... One ten in a vented box can do VERY nicely in a car.....And it wont take up as much room as a 12 inch enclosure.....

Bummer that the amp cannot be bridged to one channel.., and also a bummer that the subs are not dvc. I would personally build a bandpass box for the trunk, and run the amp bridged 1/2 right and 3/4 left. You can hide the xtants, and cheap subs come alive in a bandpass inside a trunk. Just be sure that you build it as close to manf specs as possible, otherwise you get poo poo noise.

I have 2 10" kicker impulse (crap) powered by a cheap kenwood amp (140 watts- crap) in an ugly bandpass box (that I didn't even feel like carpeting, although I did) in my jeep and they sound a whole lot better than the sum of the parts, but they sound awesome if I stuff them inside the trunk of my cutlass..

    Seriously.. try it.

so the technical data on the sub says to have .7 cuft sealed and .85 vented with a 4x5.75 port.
the .7 cuft is shared by both subs correct?

So my total box size would be .7+.85+.85= 2.4cu ft. Is that right?

any other tips on building a bandpass box, I am kind of liking this idea.

Can you post a link to this info on your subs???????

not sure how to attach a link but here is the address.

    http://xtant.com/html/techSupport/pdfs/M410.PDF

Basically you go to xtant.com, click on "Archive" in the middle of the page, scroll down to the sub section, and click on the M410 Technical data.

The link you gave me took me to right where i needed to go! The bandpass box at the bottom of the page highlkighted in grey would make a very nice box. it is for ONE speaker. the slight gain from 50-80Hz would do well with your kind of music. The smooth roll off on the bottom end will allow for a smooth decent response to the lower registers. i would go for it!!!!

Would this in the end be a better option than 2 of teh 10's in a sealed box?

ONE ten in the bandpass box, will do the SAME SPL as TWO tens in a sealed box......So yes........And if you can, put BOTH subs in a bandpass and really get withit!!!

    thank for all the advice.

What about the bandpass boxes that the two subs share the sealed chamber?
