basically....I asked him about the lights on the Eclipse...I had posted that question in an earlier thread, didn't think he saw it...On my Eclipse unit (same one Dave has) 14 of the 20 buttons on this unit do not light up....I am curious if his light up with headlights or if they are on any time the unit is powered up....The manual speaks absolutely nothing about the illumination or the headlight dimmer control or modes of it.....I have a bid on an Alpine...I hope I win it, because I am gonna take this Eclipse out of my truck....I really do not like this Eclipse....Maybe this freakin unit is defective.....

very interesting.....does anyone here know how the headlight control usually works on vehicles?? I mean like when you connect the wire to the headlight control, when you turn on the headlights, does the wire from the vehicle provide power, or a ground, or what??

I am going to pull it out and check the wiring and check to see if it is doing what it is supposed to....If it is supposed to be a 12 v. power present when lights are on....I may tie it into the ignition wire so all those buttons light whenever the unit is powered on.....never really cared about the lights dimming with HL on before on any HU I had in the past.....i just want to see all the buttons light incase I need to use one and it is hard to see whether headlights are on or off.....

sounds to me like this one has to be hooked up in order to get the lights to all work...

Ok...just pulled the player out of the dash and looked....according to the wire harness adaptor I bought, I had the Eclipse's wire connected to the right spot...The wire is orange/white......In that harness was an orange/white wire so I connected those two together.....whallla.....lights work on the Eclipse when I turn on the lights.....freakin amazing......At least the lights all work now....

Has anyone else seen this?? The HU has to have the illumination wire connected or not all of the buttons light up??

Every one I have ever installed (HU) prior to this, used that wire to dim the illumination when lights were turned on....The manual DOES NOT tell you this...
