JL XR tweeter. - $110 (if you know a cheaper source please let me know) http://www.woofersetc.com/product.asp?0=31...14&1=319&3=1757 Adire Koda - $160 http://www.adireaudio.com/StockProducts/ra...ivers.htm#Koda6 Good idea? Any suggestions for crossover settings? Anyone have experience with madisound's custom passives? Or any crossover tutorials out there
Why not go for a Koda comp set? By the time you are done with the set and the crossover you will be so close as to negate the price differance... $270 for the speakers alone? YGPM...
I'm assuming you want to do this because you like the XR tweeter better than the Koda tweeter, correct?
You are correct in assuming that I like the XR tweeter. But I have never heard the Koda tweeter. Im kind of picky. Most everything I have heard sounds too harsh. So I figred I would just get an XR tweeter and a Koda mid and be happy But from what I have heard the Koda tweeter is pretty laid back and I may enjoy it. I am glad you responded Seth as I know you have experience with both. What is your take on the Koda vs the XR tweeter? I still need to double check mounting depth to make sure the Koda can fit but if it does its the mid I would like to use. Unless maybe the AV8 would be better?
Also, would the Koda do better IB in a sealed door or with a very small sealed enclosure in the door?
Mine are essencially IB, they do very well. My pods are open to the door via a 2 inch X1 inch opening. I cannot compare them to sealed as I have not yet sealed mine I like the Koda tweeter better than the XR. This is huge, because the XR is frankly one of my favorites. Similar to you, I like a laid back tweet. The XR will get to ringing sometimes, and the Koda will not. The ringing is not always evident, don't get me wrong, there just seems to be some information that gets the dome in a tizzy. Also, you will, I assure you, hear them get muddled with complex high frequency information. To me that is their only real shortcoming. The Kodas do need to be off axis in my opinion, but they provide a broad stage anyways (due to the shape of the ring dome and diffuser I believe) and maintain a deep image. If I were to complain about the Kodas tweet, it would all be external mounting issues really. Those damn tweeter terminals are so small. But use your head and there will be no issue. Gimme a swivel mount for the tweeter to give me more mounting options too. Also, I like a smaller tweeter, but in having had one apart I can see why it is so big, it is nessicary (trick design ).... Now we need an XBL2 enabled tweet... I can see it done with this design in particular . Musically I have no gripe with it.
Oops, sorry... The AV8 is 8 ohm . It is a HT driver. I do have to say that SOB is definately crazy though. I run some ported in my mains, and they get LLLLLOOOOWWWWWWWW for an 8
I have noticed the slight ring on certain songs. XBL tweet would be pretty cool. Guess I should have read more on that AV8. Maybe I will try building some towers with them sometime. Could be fun. I'll let you know when I am ready for the Koda set then. A bit too hot right now for me to install stuff and I already have too much car audio stuff sitting around the house.
