Can someone tell me the general steps and any tricks to curving mdf wood and having it still be sturdy? I know it helps for the ports, like the air flow through them, to have it not just be a 90 degree angle but to be rounded more. Is there anywhere else that it helps?
There is a formula for this but im not quite sure what it is. Whatcha do is where you want the bend, you make several cuts into the wood like 1/4" apart and for 3/4" wood, the cut should 5/8" deep. After you make the cuts, out wood glue in the cuts then start bending. After its bent, put fiberglass resin over the cuts to make it strong. Ive nvr done this, but im gona do it on my new box im getting ready to do.
Alright thanks man. Yeah I wanted to make a comp box for my friends 3 type R 10's and try making a kerf port for it. From what I hear the kerf port doesn't do alot except make a smooth flow for the air is that pretty much true?
Check out Thumpper's thread. He has pictures on how he does it http://www.caraudiotalk.com/audio-forum/showthread.php?t=6564
doesn't he use that bendable mdf though. What has been your experience with kerfing ranger? I ask because I thought you had some pretty entertaning stories about your attempts
Yeah, it's called ranger board or something like that. I was sick and speed channel happened to be on on unique whips and whats his name was using it. It's really expensive though
you don't have to use the expensive "bendable" mdf do you? Can you do some small bends with regular mdf?
