Crunch GP1400.4 [320 x 4 @ 2 ohms] Kenwood KAC-9102D [850 x 1 @ 2 ohms] Power Acoustik LT1920/2 [370 x 2 @ 4 ohms] ive been looking at these amplifiers recently but i havent decided which one i would purchase to power my speakers. ive tried to do research in other forums but so far i havent found anything that could convince me to make a decision. My speakers only need 640 rms but i figured the amps are too cheap to be efficient even though the kenwood is a class d amp. so what does everyone think the best amp is for me to buy? i have a tight budget so i had to narrow my choices down to these three.
I really like Kenwood amps. I have used them for many years. And after many years of great service my KAC 714 finally gave out, a new Kenwood is on order and it will be here Monday I work at a shop that uses Power Acoustik (Power Series, not the LT series) for our bass specials. In three years I have never had one of these amps fail. The amps we use are the PS2-520 and the PS2-820. These are cheap yet solid amps. Don't know about Crunch
years ago (10-12 to be exact) we sold crunch amps, at that time they were a solid and reliable performer with good sonic qualities, i think they were at the time made by hifonics, we tended to sell them to folks we KNEW would beat on thier equipment, (dont ask)......due to the reliability and regulated power supplies and protection..... Not sure what they are all about today...........just givin you some history on them........
I would go with the kenwood...it puts out close to the rated power...I've run that same kenwood on two 15 L7s at 1 ohm and it pushed them quite decently without a sweat...just carefully set the gain and it pounded
What speakers are you trying to run, subs or full range (front and Rear). Most of the class D amps are used to push subs. Kenwood would be a good choice for subs. Crunch, as Viking said is made by Maxxsonics which also makes, hifonics, Mb quart and autotek. All of which are good well built amps. I would stay away from power acoustik as they tend to be very overated.
im trying to run full range speakers (four tweeters and four speakers) but i figured since class d amps are more efficient than class ab amps, i would just try out the kenwood and run it at a lower voltage just so i dont over power the speakers. would that work?
If I remember right the Kenwood is a one channel amp. i would go with the crunch since its a 4 channel amp. If you wired the front together you will see 2 ohm and the rear together you will see 2 ohm and if you plan to run them all on 1 channel you will see a 1 ohm load if im not mistaken, the Kenwood wont run 1 ohm I dont think. Just go with the 4 channel, you will be better off and you can fade front to rear which you could not do if they were all wired together.
http://colomar.com/Shavano/spkr_wiring.html thats the site that said i could wire eight speakers to a 2 ohm load but i have really calculated it to see if it was right.
i had the LT960 4 ch power acoustik(still do,..in my closet)and it ran flawlessly. it did have alot of power for my mids and highs.100x4 rated.at 4 ohms. incase your wondering why i took ot out.i upgraded to an old school amp set up. you can still find it online for 90 bucks. 105 delivered.
Pedro you love those old school PG amps man...but they are nice. Well the kenwood class d amps are in no way meant for anything besides subs...only a lowpass on them. You can wire 20 speakers to a 4 channel amp if you want and have it running safely....depends on the wiring. Viking is king (self proclaimed lol) at a full setup (front rear and sub) with a 2 channel amp...

an amp rated for "x"amount of power at 4 ohms and a rediculous amount at 1/2 ohm or lower. i.e vikings old (wooden) orions.......AND those FREAKING SWEET PGs i got.can run 1 ohm stereo all day long baby.
...............see haveing them is an unfair advantage....i.e..CHEATER AMP. IN COMPATITIONS I DONT KNOW HOW THAT SHIIT IS CLASSED NOW.
