Hey everyone, new guy here with a question. Was just wondering if anyone has any experience, or has heard anything on 12" CRUNCH Ground Pounders. I'm looking at 2 12" Ground Pounders for 120$ clean wanna see if i got an opportunity on hand, or if i should just pass. Any feedback would be awesome.

well i don't know much about the crunch ground pounders. what are the specs of the sub? gotta link?

I would look into some kicker CVR's, they can be had for about the same price. What kinda amp do you have?

Well as of right now I got no amp. I just picked up a 1990 Buick LeSabre last week and I'm looking into building up a system for it. I was looking into such names as Kicker, JL Audio, Rockfords, MTX. I'm trying to think of my car and what would be best for it. Once i figure out what kinda sub power I'm looking at, then i'll probably begin to browse around for amps. here's some pic's so you guys can sorta see what i got to play around with. Trunk space is really good, so i got plenty of room. But then again i wanna try to cut corners where i can, or find deals at auctions, or trade centers so i don't go overboard with prices.

for your car, these are the speakers that it takes.

    Front speakers
    Dash: 4x6"
    Front Door: 5-1/4"

    Rear speakers
    Rear Deck: 6x9"

First thing I would work on is getting good front speakers first. It's nice to have good bass but you don't want your bass overpowering your vocals. so a good front stage is very important...

What kind of budget are you working on for speakers? If you're really on a budget i would recommend some Phoenix gold RSD 5 1/4 component speakers up front, they are a great budget speaker, i've heard a lot of good things about them.

elemental designs is having a sale on their 16Ov.2 subs, 15" subs from $225 they are now only $95 a pop! that is really cheap. Great subs, you may want to take a look at those. If not, go with kicker, they won't let you down and they can be had very cheap especially on ebay.

figure out first what speakers your going to get up front and then we can take it from there.

What kind of deck (stereo) do you have?

Alright, thanks A LOT for the advice with the speakers. I will deff look into those if you say they bang for their buck. As far as deck wise, the deck the car came with is out of date and not the best so I'll most likely have to replace it. Ive seen some really nice pioneer decks, but i haven't really browsed through them much. Ive always been interested in the flip screens which is what i was gunna go with, with my last car (97' Honda Accord EX)

As far as subs i will look deep into Kicker. I too have heard many good things about them and if there not that that pricey then i will most likely get them. I don't mind paying a little extra for quality. But as far as speakers id like to keep a budget with them so ill look into the type you suggested.

As far as Amps i wanna pump out as potential as possible, so i don't mind spending a little more on the amp for the car. I deff don't wanna half ass that.

And one last question. Ive heard all over different opinions and wanna see what you guys say about this, that i heard if you mix names like i.e (Pioneer Deck, Kicker Sub, JL Audio Amp ect.) that the quality or sound isn't the best opposed to having your system as 1 name brand i.e JL Audio everything, or Pioneer everything. Was just wondering if that's true, or if it doesn't matter that you mix names.

I will be sure to keep you guys posted on what happens. Feedback by anyone is greatly appreciated!

Are you looking for spl or sq? I take it spl by the kickers but I just wanna be sure. Like cc said get your front stage first. In a good setup the sub is the least important as it only play a very narrow spectrum of frequencies.

I would be hard pressed to believe that if you bought all one name stuff that it would be that great...In my opinion...Some of the best quality or best bargain speakers are made by companies that dont make head units or amps..

As far as I feel...The look and features of a HU are top priority for me on which one I pick...Certain brands I stay away from and certain brands I lean towards. I can care less about 24 presets for the radio stations..I want ease of use and to be able to do the things I will do more often in a simpler way. I also check for overall feel of it when I hit buttons and turn knobs...you can usually feel the cheapness...Speakers are something that you really have to listen to to get a feel for them being what you want..depends on music and listening habits..I might hear a set of subs that sound musically incredible but dont hit real hard and those are the ones I would choose....rather than subs that rattle your teeth but dont sound all that great quality-wise...I have seen (heard) quite a few systems that were loud as hell and then I stick my head in the car and it sounds like ass. Listen to speakers with your own music in hand..Turn the bass and treble to zero...Turn off loudness and bass boost stuff...Just put the music through naturally and see if the sound is smooth..Midrange should be smooth and not nasal...Treble things should sound smooth, not overly bright or hissy..

Amps are something that I tend to get opinions and look at REAL WORLD specs...Power ratings and distortion ratings and how the amp puts out at a minimum of 12 volts...Something that says "800 watts rms" and is at the local thrift shop on sale for $29.99 is gonna be junk...

    my two cents
