is it true that the crossovers need to be close to the speakers? Cuz I want to wire the crossovers and make a nice little thing in my trunk..
Where did you hear this?? Most new good head units have crossovers built in and they are anywhere near the speakers lol I'm assuming you mean passives lol
like the JL ZR's ... i'm planning on getting a pair.. and they have crossovers.. I want to wire them on display in the trunk.. is that too far away from the speakers? I never thought about it, but a friend told me that it has to be less than 3 feet away from the speaker. I said I would find out. So i'm asking you guys.
i dont see any reason to wire them real far away like the trunk mount them in a custom door panel behind plexiglass ive never herd of this though but it stands to reason, longer the wire the more time it will take for the speaks to get the sound... however it would have to be ridiculously long for you to notice it, your rear speaks dont echo your fronts...
I don't really want to butcher the car up too much. I kinda want to go for a stock look. but when I open up the trunk. I want all my **** on display . lol. with suede carpet and lights and everything. If only i knew how to motorize things. That way i woudl have my amps flying out of the trunk with hydralics. lol anyidea guys?
It should be perfectly fine...I've seen many installs where the crossovers are mounted near the amp. Unless the run is like 100 feet lol there shouldn't be any problems...I'd use 14-12 gauge wire
I know this is a crappy picture of a picture, but this is the back of my Bonneville.... http://www.caraudiotalk.com/audio-forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=112&d=1167531977 The crossovers are on the right...These were 3 ways for my front speakers (6.5 midbass in a custom console in front of front seats, 4" mid in doors and 1" tweets in the dash) ....I too like to have the stuff this way.....My truck is in the works and I am mounting my crossovers on the false back wall of my pick-up for my front door separates..... You will not have a problem with that....not at all..... Willy
The x-overs can be wherever you want them. Wonder where this "3 foot or less" rule come from? Some wanna be car stereo guru pulling shyte out of his ass it sounds like.
Electricity moves at 186,000 miles per second or some such. Do you really think the the distance from the head unit or amp to the speaker means much in the grand scheme?
well, that extra millionth of a second just means you wont get the latest breaking news as fast as you can.
I have seen pro audio PA set-ups where things had to travel hundreds of feet with no problem with delay... Who is gonna be the smart ass who says "but this is audio, aren't we talkin bout the speed of sound?"......ha ha ha .....I believe that is still something like 1100 ft. per second......You could wrap the wires around your car 50 times and still not lose a second in delay.... Willy
Naw. Just need to run the wires outside the car till they get to their final destination and drive real fast.
Wow, thanks guys. lol there was about .5% of information in this thread. lol hahah jk. the audio thing is on hold.. aparently i need to work 6 more months at the shop to get JL's factory 70% discount. bahum bug.
