I know it's probably a good idea to use crossovers to take the bass out of tweeters, but is it necessary to use them on door speakers? Or any other components? Like could I just run the speakers straight to the amp and get some decent sound or do I need to use the crossovers to get tha good midbass i'm lookin for outta my doors? I'm really not sure how crossovers really work, so any info on this subject would be greatly appreciated!
No, I don't have anything yet.. I'm getting a new truck and I'm trying to get a list of equipment together, and I really don't want anything I don't need... Like if it's gotta be in there, I don't mind at all putting it in, if not, then I don't want to mess with it.. But the equipment I want is new door speakers all tha way around, 4 tweeters, 2 subs, new HU, and 3 amps, one for components, and one for each sub... That's enough money lol I know Ima put crossovers on the tweeters, but if I don't need em in tha doors then I don't want em... I already have all the eq picked out if it would help for you to know what exactly we're dealing with.. lol..
So....new truck...new equipment... ok then there alot of ways to do things here. Do you WANT new equipment or just use some of what you have and add on to it?? You have a four channel amp...that will run the highs just fine.. You may want a HU that has a built in high pass x-over to run it. or an add on electronic x-over if the HU does not have it... Look...there is lots to contend with. waht do you want to keep, and what do you want to get rid of? What is your budget and what do you want? Dont make any quick decisions. if its a good deal today, it will be a good deal next week, and maybe cheaper. is your new a dodge ford or chevy? we need LOTS of accurate info to help you out! LOL!
LOL I want ALL NEW STUFF.. I've really had my eye on alot of stuff for a while, so I really already pretty much know what I want, I jus want to know how to get tha BEST sound out of what I'm gettin.. And it's gonna be a 2011 F-150.. I wanna replace every peice of audio in it, HU, door speakers, and all tha wire. I really don't have a budget, because I'll be buyin tha stuff here and there, so I can get whatever I really need... This is what I want.. and PLEASE don't tell me about the brand and what brand is better and all that junk lol I know what I'm gettin.. Subs: I want 2 MTX Thunder thin 12s to go under the back seat, 800 watts RMS together. Amps:MTX Thunder Elite 801D. It puts off the 800 watts RMS (I'm not sure if I want the single amp setup or one on each sub? what you think?) Components: MTX 6-1/2" Thunder Dome-Axial Series 2-Way Coaxial Car Speakers RMS all the way around is 240 watts RMS. component amp:I don't have the amp for the components.. I'm not sure what size door speakers are in the Ford.. But I'd get around a 500 watt RMS 5 channel amp.. thats a ball park figure.. ( How hard would it be to make the speakers fit? Like if it comes with 5 inch speakers could I fabricate something to make 6s or 5x7s fit?) And the MTX Thunder Axe TX1000 25mm Soft Dome Tweeters with Crossover System 200 watt RMS all the way around HU: Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD + AVIC-U220 Navigation Package Double DIN 7" Touchscreen TFT-LCD Monitor with DVD/CD/MP3 Player, USB, Aux Input, and GPS Navigation Or if i wanna go single din (which i probably won't.. this is a just in case) JVC KD-AVX77 In-Dash DVD, CD, MP3, WMA Receiver with Built-in Ultra-Widescreen Monitor, Bluetooth Wireless Technology and Remote
You can probably use the hpf filter in the h/u to keep the lows out of your door speakers.I would just use the one amp for the subs to make it easier to adjust. It looks like 5x7 or 6x8 is the size for your doors.Might I make a suggestion (Iknow you prolly don't want to hear this),but I would keep the stock rear speakers and get a component set for the front with a amp.If you get a 4 channel amp, then you could still get comps for up front.I don't have rear speakers at all and you wouldn't know unless you sat in the back seat.Just use the rears for fill.
no one speaker is designed to play the whole frequency range at once. hence why we use 3 to 4 diff types of speakers. sub, for bass woofer, for mid bass/ mid range midrange, for vocals tweeters for highs. so to answer your question. use a crossover on your door speakers to keep the low bass from distorting the sound. the setting of the crossover depends on what speaker is used and how well it is installed. if its head unit power you might be able to get away with not using one since its on low power. my set up goes like this. my sub is set to 80HZ low pass @ 24db per oct. my lower door mid is set to 100HZ hi pass @ 12db per oct, upper door mid- 600HZ hipass @ 12db per oct tweeter- 4500hz hi pass @ 18 db per oct. so all the freqs are covered, and my doors midbass/ midrange blend into each other, along with my tweeter. and my sub rolls off right up th where the mids take over. you can get away with 2 speakers per door. ( a mid and a tweeter) and they come with their own passive crossovers. so you don't have to worry about the one on the amp or the head unit.
Okay, so I think I'm startin to get it.. I think I'll do like Tommy said and use midrange and tweeters in tha front, but instead of jus keepin stock in tha back doors, could I use a midbass type woofer and a couple of tweeters and it sound decent? I want every passenger in the truck to get a good sound, no matter where you sit. So would I have to use a midrange and a midbass in tha back to get that good sound?... I'll have somethin fabricated if I have to to accommodate for the extra speaker in tha door.. I jus want it to sound as good as I can get it..
well, I was jus lookin through the forums and I think I found what I want to do, if it'll sound right, but I'll have more questions if I do it. On Liftedranger's new thread, he's fabed up some door pods that I really like. Do you think if I put somethin like that in all 4 doors, and put like a 4 inch midrange and a 6.5 midbass in all 4 doors it would sound decent?.... I'm really goin for SQ on this one..
