Okay.. I have had my fill of this.. I cannot praise eclipse enough, for the wonderful performance that I got out of my old HU. (bought 2yrs ago, and paid a good penny) as some of you know, I sold the old ford, and kept the equip that I had in it. tried to put my old (fairly new eclipse cd 8445 HU) in my gal's jeep, and it gets funny. It will play the radio just fine, but when I put in a cd, it will only send signal to the subwoofer, and not to the door and dash speaks. it will do this every time, no matter how much I mess with the settings. As I mentioned before, the unit has not been abused at all, and with the exception of not working, the unit looks brand new, and everything works perfectly when in radio mode. -Veddy EEnteresting. HMMM....? So I just bought her a Brand new head unit.. Eclipse cd4000. A great little unit, perfect for what she needs, and plenty of power, and 5v pre outs, etc... looks just like my 8445 with a less complex screen and a few less features. So, I just put it in.... GUESS WHAT??????? It is doing the exact same Friggin thing. works fine on radio, but will only send a signal to the subwoofer when you play a cd. every time... same thing.... what the f? anybody know more about eclipse than I do?
lol guess what???//// I would say it's not the eclipse hu, can't be two different models doing a weird thing like that. Are you using the stock amplifier of your jeep? Does it have a factory amp in the trunk or back.
sounds like the jeep to me. did you use the factory power, ground etc.??? Maybe you should rewire the whole damn thing.
I know this is probably a pain to do but if you take out the deck and hook it up at the battery with a single speaker you would know for sure what's happening. Make sure you tape all the wires though don't short it out lol.
resolved Turns out, I'm an idiot. (some of you knew this already) A long long time ago, in a garage far, far away, I had blown speakers in my (my girlfriends jeep), so I replaced them with some kenwood excelon's. they sounded pretty good, so I decided to add some subs. I didn't want the hassle of putting a line level converter, so I just swapped the head unit with one that had sub outs. I removed the stock infinity gold HU (some of you know where this is going) and put in a kenwood cd player. wonderful swap, and played like a champ for a while. Then I decided to upgrade to another kenwood that had sub outs and was capable of playing mp3/wma files. that one worked great for two years. then one day, it just quit working- no display, no noise, nothing.. I decided to upgrade to a much nicer (more expensive) unit, and since I have loved my eclipse so much, I decided to get her one. since I sold the blue beast, (and kept all of my electronics from it), I put my old cd8445 in the jeep while the new one was on the way. That's when all of the hassle started. Couldn't get sound from the cd player, except from the subwoofer outs. I thought that I somehow blew the cd8445 up, and waited for the new one to arrive. So, when the new one arrived, and had the same problem, I was absolutely dumbfounded. I forgot about the silly thing having the infinity gold system originally. See, I left the old original gold amp in (and connected) since the amp did not seem to have problems with the output from the kenwood, and everything was happy. This is NOT supposed to work, but for some reason, It did. The amp does NOT like the eclipse. For some reason, everything works fine when it is in radio mode, but does not function when in cd or aux mode. this is a simple fix, however.. you just take out the amp, and splice the input wires from the hu to the output wires from the amp. cap the power wires, and be on with your listening pleasure. I have the wiring sequence if anyone ever has the same problem. thank you all for your advice and tips.. this site rocks.
thanks, buddy.. I checked out the 8445 using that same method, and it is working perfectly, except the display not working. I have checked out the ribbon cable that connects the motorized faceplate to the unit, and it is fine. so I am dumbfounded again. -go figure
huh?.....so you just had to bypass the factory amp? wow. my brain would have exploded trying to figure that out.
Glad you found out what the problem was. I was into car stereos in the '90s-just getting back into it. When I would do a system, I would rewire everything and bypass everything factory.
