Hey, so Im gunna be putting together a system for my 90' BMW 325i, but I dont know what brands/models to get. My budget is a max of $1000 and with that budget I need the following:

HU: Anything with CD, AM/FM, and Aux (XM would be nice, but not required). Nothing flashy, im going for a low-key look so as to make it less appealing to potential thieves.

speakers: 1 set of good quality 5.25 components (im only going with front speakers, no rears)

    sub: 1 10" sub

    Amp: ??
I listen to 90% country music, but every now and again I listen to some hip-hop and such, so I think a 10" is the biggest I wanna go with the sub. Im looking for sound quality over quantity. Can you guys please use crutchfield.ca when making suggestions? Thanks for your help

is there any particular reason for using crutchfield? It is wayyy overpriced in most cases.

You really need to understand the situation that your car is in
Most of the BMW (even a 90s) have a premium type factory audio system
With factory matched radio, amplifier and speakers (small speakers in that car)
The BMWs are difficult to work with
The trunks are heavily insolated (sound proof) unlike American type cars

A 1,000.00 budget will not replace or improve the entire audio system
You may improve on a section of the system not the whole thing
The original audio system cost more than 1,000.00

Your really going to need a good plan or you be just wasting money on that car

I beg to differ. these days a decent head can cost as little as 150.00 and a decent set of 5.25's are under 100 as well. a small sub and box can be had for 200, if the box is build by hand. and a 4ch amp thats worth a damn can cost as little as 200 or less.

will it break records.. no. can it sound good with only 200~400 watts... yes.

so i think 1000 is very doable as long as research is done and he doesnt go out and buy high priced items.

pioneer and polk makes very affordable equipment as far as speakers and heads go.

amps.. hell with so many out there its hard to pin point any one brand at the moment.

pedro does have some points about it. its not going to sound the best in the world, but it'll give it some "oompf". as far as subs and an amp go..if you're looking at that kind of a budget..

this sub, I know it's not the same situation in types of cars..but I had one of these in a Santa Fe, with a little 500 watt bazooka amp, and it sounded pretty decent.

as far as head units go..I've always liked Pioneers tuning ability..and with all that, also going with what pedro said, you can get a sub, box, head unit, amp wiring kit all for maybe $500-$700. well under your budget.
