Hi guys well first off i have a 2003 mercury grand marquis and for my sub system i have 2 15" kickers cvr's wich will be powered by a Autotek 1200. Since i just purchased the car im thinking of upgrading the stock speakers to a component set no more then $150 now the question is wich do you guys recommend as this is the first time i purchase a set of comp's im gonna buy adapters and use 6.5's in the front but for the back do u guys just recommend just buying a set of co-axil's? as far as amp to power them i will first buy the comps then the amp also i have yet to buy a headunit also Thanks 4 ur help n time :D

For your car and budget I would look at the Infinity Reference 6820 CS, Crutchfield has them for 119.00 dollars and they are 5x7/6x8 so they bolt right into your car without any modification, of course you need to mount the tweeter.

those are nice. dont they also make a coaxial type as well so you dont have to mod any of it up?

polk makes a nice set of coaxials too. in that size as well.

i would use the coaxial just for the slightly larger cone area.

i have some unused 6x9's i want to put in my front door just for that reason(if they would fit)

so u guys think i should dismiss the idea of components in the front and just run 6x8's all around should i buy tweeters to go along or with the co axils i should be fine thnx

sorry to double post but im really leaning to 6.5's since there is a much wider variety of speakers do u think i would have to do alot of modification in order to get the 6.5's to fit?

no. no mods, but you will need to cut a small hole for the tweet. either surface mount or flush mount.

I would do just that (thats what I did in my truck) Buy a coaxial and a set of tweeters. As far as the size stay with the 6 x 8's. More surface area. I like the Infinity Reference and the Polk Audio speakers. Both have a really good tone to them.

In your car, the speakers are positioned well, but a tweeter mounted a little higher than the speaker will bring the sound up. This should result in a better onerall sound quality.

    My 10-cents worth
