I just picked up 2 sets of alpine components (sps571) for my explorer. When I was questions a salesman at Best Buy, he said you HAVE TO run an amp with components. The salesman at the stereo shop said it was not necessary but would make for a better sounding system. I do want to add an amp just can't afford it just yet. Anybody's thougths and opinions are appriciated.

    thanks

you dont need an amp just yet. run it with out an amp for now. the amp will give you more headroom is all. at reg normal listening levels it will work just fine.

when i bought my first set of component speakers i didn't amp them. there may be some distortion at high volume because the component speakers are higher wattage but other than that, you should be fine until you can afford an amp.

Its gonna be a couple weeks before I can get time to put them in, so I might get an amp of ebay. If I find one cheap enough then I'm not out that much if it doesn't work out that great.
