Hello, I have a Toyota Corolla 1996 and I'm looking to upgrade my stock system. I already got a Pioneer DEH-3200UB head unit installed but i'm still using my stock speakers. I've been reading on here and other sites and have decided to get the speakers now, and an amp to drive them properly later (couple of months after i get the speakers hopefully). I read the car uses 4" speakers in the front doors and 6.5" speakers on the back, but I also noticed that the previous owner of the car drilled what seem to be 6x9" holes between the two 6.5" holes in the back. The person that installed the head unit said I could get 6.5" speakers for the front and he'd make them fit (dunno how though, I'm kinda hesitant on this) and also told me to get 6x9" for the holes in the middle of the rear deck. So after all this, my questions are: what speakers would you recommend? I listen to all kinds of music (loud enough so I can enjoy it inside the car without people being able to listen much outside), from heavy music (metalcore and stuff) to rap and latin music, and I like bass, not earthshaking trunk rattling bass, but some nice bass to be able to feel the drumkicks a bit, I have read that after driving the speakers with a 4 channel amp I can get that effect without getting a sub in the trunk. Also, should I get 6.5 speakers for the front? or should i stick to 4"? and for the back, does having the speakers a little too close together is a problem? To get the effects mentioned above, do I need an amp? If so, what amps would you recommend? Thanks in advance
Hello , i just register in your perfect site.-) Dear fgmmgf, i am from Greece and i have the same car whith you (corolla EE101 ), in frond doors, you can put 6,5" speakers using together at the same time the OEM speaker spacer whitch have allredy hook up the OEM speaker.Personally, i have the Infinity kappa perfect 6.1 in my frond doors whith plus an custom made by my shelf MDF space ring 10mm thick becouse that really perfect speakers mounts too depth and if you dont use the spacer the magnet will stop the window. Now, whith this ring the window when is fully open is about 2-3mm close behind the magnet and in frond side of speaker another 2-3mm the rubber speaker cone suspension from the grill of the door.I must tell you the corolla had much more than one door panells, depends from the destination for sell country and from the accesory level. If it helps, mine model has exactly the same door panell as the Japan model whith electric windows and locks. To the rear dashboard now you have 2 choices. One is that you describe whith 6x9" but are close each other , but in this case you will have enoughf strong deep bass whitout subwoofer. The 2nd is that i have choose, i have mount another one set of 6,5" close to rear pilow. The car has cutted holes (likes square) and you can see them if you look inside from trunk. Here i have one set Eaton 160SEX coaxial whith seperate box crossover mounted.I think this position has better results in sense, surround, clarity from the oval position becouse are not so close as the oval .Ihave mounted from year 2002 but 3 days ago the one (in drivers side, the left) blowed out the woofer (the tweeter still working!!) Thats why i found this site, becouse i plan to buy one more set infinity kappa perfect 6.1 or JBL c608 GTi.(and guys help me please which one sounds better?and where can i buy them?I cant find them in europeto buy them and I cant found to hear the JBL here in greece...the infinity i love it!! is that exactly that i want)And i also have one sealed enclosure subwoofer in my trunk, kenwood 12" powered by half Earthquake PH 2200 (briged 1+2 chanel)and a second Earthquake PH 2200 drives erond and rear speakers (one speaker/chanel) I hope to help you and if you need any further info i can write here. Thank you all to accept me as neweby here and sorry for the bige post...
