I was bored today and i was looking at my console in my truck and it is just 2 plain. I was thinking about redoing it. I was thinking maybe doing the sides out of 1/2" plexiglass and putting fiber glass on top and paint the top black and put LEDs on the inside to light it up at night. There will also be a 5.25 speaker in it. Here is the design i thought of. Tell me what you think.

The 2 smaller holes are cup holders and the bigger hole is for the 5.25 speaker.

that's going to take some work but if you're up for it then try it out. Working with fiber glass is a bit of a pain though. i did it once, i don't think i'll try it again. lol

cool. we love pics!!! I did a FG box for my wife's CRV before. I just didn't like the itching that fiberglass gives. my only advice i could give you is to make sure you were gloves and protect any exposed skin. FG really itches.

Well i started on the console today but i had to go to a party then go to work so i didnt get much done. Im not gona make the whole side plexicglass, but i am gona cut an oval out on each side and put FORD in it so it will light up and put an oval on top and put J-ROD to light up cuz thats my nick name. I will post pics of what i have so far in the morning before i go to work.

The rectangle towards the front and the oval with ford in will be cut out and plexiglass put over it so you can see thru. Ill try to keep working on it today when i get out of work if i have time.

This console is small since i have the bench type seats. the console is 5 inches high at the highest point,20 inches long, and 10.5 inches wide. Heres a few pics of my interior with the old console.

Heres a few more pics of my progress on my console. Basically all i have left is put fleece on it, fiberglass it, paint it and get the plexiglass. I hope it looks good. How does it look so far.

looks good. How much hardener did you mix with the resin?

It said mix 18 drops of hardener for the whole can, but i used about 1/3 of it so i put about 6 drops in it. I think i should have put more since its cool and damp outside. O well, you learn as you go and this is my first attempt at fiberglassing ever.

you should be okay though. it will just take a lot longer to dry, that's all. for your next coat just put more hardener. how many coats are you planning on putting?

Watch out for bubbles in the fiber mat when you put on the resin. sometimes it's a pain to get the bubbles out and you don't want it drying with bubbles.
