cat 3, cat5, cat5e

    ok, i am getting dsl at my college apt., and two computers will be networked off of a (probably) 4-port router. my roomate already has some cat 3 cable, which i think will carry 10mbps??? would this be sufficient, or should we buy some cat 5 cable, which will carry 100mbps, or cat 5e, 250mbps? i don't think dsl will exceed 10 mbps, but will cable? thanks a lot

  2. I would get cat 5 if you have a 100mbs switch/hub otherwise I guess cat 3 will work. You dont need cat5e because your hardware cant handle that anyway (ie you still only get 100mbs MAX. Cat 5e is just if you think you might upgrade your hardware and dont want to rewire your company.)
