i know its possible, i see it all the time at stereo shops. car audio running inside a house. my question is id like to build a display room in my garage and i need to know how to draw dc power from an ac plug? i have a few ideas. 1, to buy a converter that changes ac to dc, but then i dont know how big to buy it. my setup will have about 500w total. the other way i think is to have a battery and battery charger, but then im not sure if that will work, i dont know if it will drain the battery faster than it will charge. anyone have any ideas? or what do the stereo shops use to run there stuff? again my setup will have about 500w total. or what would be the cheapest? thanx
this one or one bigger.viking said he uses an astron 50 amp supply with a batt. http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=120-558
You mentioned usin a bettery charger, not really a good idea. They can induce some 60Hz hum into the system. At minimum, I would say use a 20-30 amp power supply in conjunction with a battery. This will allow for a few songs worth of "jammin" without a problem. There are very few stand alone power supplies that can realistically power an entire demo board without the use of a battery. The ONLY one i know of to do this is the Orion PS100A. (it will even start a car, with NO battery in it! )
well i geuss this is a dead end project. cuz i also have partys everyother week and love to jam out with the hose!! but lately my suround sound hasnt really been satisfieing our ears. maybe i should just get bigger speakers!
Just get the biggest power supply you have....at my local shop they use a 70 amp power supply...but it is also like 2 feet wide by about a foot and a half deep and about a foot and a halt tall...I dunno what it is but they use it to power one of their displays...its a monster
This is the GOD of all power supplies! http://www.naalive.com/cataloglistingitem.aspx?lotid=1490334 wonder what it went for?
