In the years of my abscense from the car audio scene, i am finding higher and higher numbers when it comes to wattage ouput of amps. And at the same time, lower and lower prices.

This makes sense to a point, with the advent of new and cheaper technology, overseas manufacturing being cheap and actually with some quality behind it, i can understand this.............to a point.

The number of amps on the market today is just plain insane. And with the wattage ratings being higher than ever, i find that i am more and more turned off at what is out there. 1000 watts for 300 bucks???? 5 Kw for 800 bucks?????? I dont see this as realistic, i find it actually rather insulting. the process for doing even an HONEST 1Kw is massive when dealing with a source voltage of 12 volts. Then, what has happened to regulations and standerds? i havent seen anyone conform to ANY typpe of standerd in years.

I propose this. i would like to see an honest test done, a high quality car adio amp compared to a high quality home amp......both of them used to drive the same speakers, the same speaker wire, and both given the ideal voltage for the input. Same source unit, same test equipment, and same listeners.

It is in this kind of test that would prove to me that the current level of technology in car audio is even close to home amps of even 15 years ago.......

i would dare to compare my OLD sony ES home amp against ANYTHING currently made rated at the same power output......

This would be an interesting test i think.....

    Thoughts, opinions on this anyone????????

you know what is really crazy Viking.. imagine the options when they covert the 12V car power source to a higher voltage. I have read articles of a possible change to a 48V standard power source for autos. Think about what kind of power a headunit can put out with 48V of source power!

True, the higher voltages will enable amps, both external and internal to do very nice levels of output, the laws of electrons will allow it!!!! Along with that, current demands will decrease, wire gauges will get smaller and the overall efficiencies will skyrocket....i am all for a higher voltage car electrical system. Of course, that means a whole new world of car audio and electronics.....

Its big and pretty powerfull...I'm not sure if the Super-A means class A topology or what but it is pretty sweet

Good ole amp, but not "quality" like what I was thinking.....dont get me wrong, it IS a good amp, just not what i was reffering too.

I would like to see a comparison against on old Mark levinson, or a McIntosh, or even an old Carver tube amp, hell, even an old denon dedicated amp..........SCREW you car audio amp makers!!!!!!!!!!!!!! give me a REAL 100 watts insrtead of a crappy 1000watts!!!!!!!!!!!

I wasn't saying it was a good "quality'' amp but just a good old tough amp...It was just sittin in the basement so I put it to use in my bedroom.
