I currently have an alpine 7897, but am thinking about moving to an Eclipse CD8443. Mp3 playback isnt important. People keep telling me the 8 volt preouts would be nice, but what the hell are they so important for? What do preouts do?

Do you guys think I should upgrade to the eclipse?

I dunno man. A guy i know from a different forum had an Alpine 9815 til it got stolen then he picked up an 8443 and likes the 8443 alot better. However, the only differences he ever noted were the preout voltages. I was looking into getting an Eclipse HU myself, but i was really wanting mp3 playback since the last two HU's i've had have been mp3 compatible. I ended up getting the 9815 with a line driver....so hopefully that'll make up for the preout voltage difference.

As far as what higher voltage preouts do.... The higher input voltage will allow you to leave the gains on your amps lower, lowering the noise floor. The whole system should run quieter basically.
