i have a 2006 silverado regular cab and i wanna hook up some subs...i have the subs and an amp already and i wanna hook them up to my factory setup....i intend to get a double-din deck but i wanna get a good one, and i wanna hook up my subs temporarily...my factory cd player has an auxillary button on it...my question is, can i hook them up directly or do i need an adaptor???

You need Sub Preouts, and I don't know of any factory CD Players with Pre-Outs.

    The viking speaks wisdom..

any line level converter will do fine, but that's a good one!

it basically "transforms" the "high" powered signal from your factory unit, down to something that your amp can ingest. they work great, and are very inexpensive.

might I suggest eclipse, alpine, or pioneer for the double din unit?

just get a converter that goes from your front right and left speaker outputs into rca connections. It will work with the stock deck but your efficiency and overall SQ may be a bit comprimised. I've heard through many sources they have a great solution for stock deck people but I've yet to test it on my own. Its a line output converter...there may be a direct factory plug-in available that I'm not aware of though.
