Hey guys its time to get a sub for the girl's car. And she really doesnt want to spend much money. So I have been looking around for cheap stuff that is going to work. The amp I have that is going to be going to is is a 200.2 so lets just assume 150-200watts RMS bridged. So it needs to be a single 4ohm voice coil. This power range is good because shes doesnt want a very loud sub. Anyways, ...

I have an guy offering to sell me a JL 12w0 for 50 bucks shipped and I can get a box 1.4cu sealed that would fit it right for another 50 bucks. so 100 bucks total.

I also saw crutchfield had this nice little sub that might work here..

    also 100 bucks.

This is also on sale for 100 bucks

or i could put 2 of these "Thump" subs and run each channel to one since they actually rated 200 watts MAX power ... i asked the guy about it. Though I would have to do some research to see what size box i need for them in a sealed application.

Not sure if its better to have 2 subs or 1 sub with twice the power.

Any opinions on the matter would help. She just wants something to fill in the low end without taking over the car.

Well NOW she wants a bandpass box cause they look more "secure" for the sub... alrighty the search continues... we WILL get this at some point. Looks like the only cheap Bandpass box that is rated for the power im looking at is like a Pyle Quoobz 10". Prolly get one off of ebay for less than 100 dollars.. let me know if yall have any suggestions.

oh yeah this girl's car is really shaping up now.. Dual 6.5" speakers all around.. with a factory headunit .. using a portable cd player w/ tape adaptor.. and soon to be a Pyle bandpass system powered by a Boss 2 channel amp. I spare no expense when it comes to her car... nothing but the best.

eh well, at least she gets a clean install.

How long have you been having conversations with yourself? Is this a recent problem or has it been going on for a long time?

But seriously, buy a woofer and build your own enclosure. If you optimize size and tuning you will have a great sounding set up.

She ended up wanting a bandpass box and I couldnt talk her out of it. Got a 8" plye in a bandpass box on the way for 50 bucks shipped brand new. Ordered all my install equipment from crutchfield and I think Thursday is going to be car audio install day assuming everything gets here by then.. as thats my day off.

Im TELLING you! I spare no expense!

Her Saturn is sporting names like

    PLYE! (sub)
    BOSS AUDIO! (amp)
    DUAL! (front/rears)
    NEXXTECH! (portable cd/mp3 player)

lol...I bet if you install all of that properly it can sound halfway decent...but to her it prolly sounds like the best in the world...which is what matters

oh yeah, its getting a proper install, honostly so far it doesnt sound half bad at all. Doing on the work myself assures it gets done right. The difference from those OEM speakers to the dual is night and day. I know the bandpass box has rear firing ports.. its going in the trunk so which way should it face? I was thinking ports firing at the tail lights with the front of the box against the rear seats.. prolly the best no? I was actually thinking of using some L- brackets and drilling into the rear deck so its like suspended above the trunk and we can still put stuff under it. I mean the box is only 10 x 10 x 17..

on a side note: we went the circuit city today and i tried to get her to buy the kicker comp truck box 150watts rms to put back there.. personally i think it would have sounded excellent for what she wanted.. but she just wouldnt spend 100 bucks to get it. ah well i tried.

on a second side note they actually had the equipment in there tuned just about right because most of their display subs were sounding pretty nice. Pretty good selection. They had an Eclipse dual 12 box with these metal grills in front .. looked nice and I was impressed at the quality of the sound it produced. All in all for this area Circuit city owns best buy as far as the big boy corporations go for car audio.

Looks nice....I'd try firing the sub rear first...then to the side and see how it sounds
