i have a 12" alpine type r running off a alpine mrpm500 amp at 2 ohms 500wrms:cool: and my first box i made was a complete f'up, got the plan off another forum and totally didnt realise it was 10.5 inches high and when i went to stick the sub in well yeah didnt fit, so i made a second with the dimensions from the sub booklet the outter dimensions were:
    18L"x13.5D"x16.5H
thankfully the thing JUST squeazed in my trunk (05 pontiac g6)
as the top or the box hits the bottom of the magnet on the rear speakers on the deck, i unno if that is good on the speakers i unno but any who i cant remember how big my port is its a "L" slot port its 2.5-3 inches in width and about 9 inches long. and with the gain like half, it still pounds hard and rattles every part on the rear of the car it isnt putting out much air from the port, could it be restricted? so i think im not getting enough out of my sub due to the box design, and im wondering if anyone can help me out, the height cannot be more than 16" other measurements shouldnt matter much as the box shouldnt be more than 30 inches for a single 12":p
    any feedback is greatly appreciated.

First, two things leave a port, air and sound. Air is not important, unless its velocity is so high it effects the sound. In other words, we want to reduce the air velocity as much as possible.

I'll get to the box shortly

Will this work? Make the box 14-inches tall, 24-inches wide and 18-inches deep. This should give us a volume between 2.25 and 2.5 cu ft. This will provide us with a good low tone.

The port will be 12.5-inches tall and 2-inches wide. It will be 15.25-inches long. This length is important.

that could work but its just soo unpropotionate that port like 2 inches in a 24inch long board tthats kinda how my box is now just a bit different obviously.

Then give me some input as to what you want. I'd like to help if its possible. Would you like a port on each side of the box? Or how about a port on the side? Let me know

a port on each side would work fine.
height is 16inchs max and 30 inches wide.
sub is a 12" alpine type r swr 1242, running at 500 wrms
    from the amp.

OK then lets try this, the outside dimensions will remain the same. The overall port size will increase and because our usable volume decreases slightly we will also re-adjust our tuning.

The ports will be 12.5-inches tall and 1.5 inches wide. The length will be 27-inches for each port. Remember that the right turn is NOT calculated in the port length.

that could work maybe but what do oyu mean by 27 inches for the port.
and do you have designs for that but with a cirlcle tube port im more leaning towards that but a dual.

I personally like round ports, they are easier to deal with. So lets change our box a little bit. Do this, 14-inches tall by 26-inches wide and finally go for 17 inches deep.

Put the speaker in the center and place one port on each side of the woofer. The ports need to be 4-inch (use PVC) round and make them 12-inches long.
