Ok so I ended up buying this 1988 Ford Ranger Supercab for like 500 bucks from down the street. The speaker locations are as follows. It has 4" speakers in the dash firing up at the front windshield. Then it has 5x7s in the rear above the jump seats. I still have some final product research to do as to what brands im getting but this is about what its going to be. A JBL 6-channel amp. each speaker is getting amped then bridging the sub channels to my Infinity 12". I did a fitment test today on my box with my 12 in it just to see. I am going to be installing it behind the driver seat so I can at least use one of the jump seats for a 3rd passenger. My options for the sub in the box its in is either.. because the front of the box is a bit angled.. its going to either fire at the front window or the center of the roof over the driver. So thats about it. Going to stick with coaxials just because I dont feel like cutting holes and mounting tweeters. Also sticking with a single 12 for the rear.

One interesting idea I was willing to try out though was removing the arm rest from its current location.. installed a box there and putting it on top of the box. Should be able to fit a 6-8 inch speaker there if i wanted with a good 14 inches of length at my disposal. Just something that came to mind while checking it out.

So my main concern is keeping those 4" speakers loud enough to keep the stage more to the front of the car. Need to be overpowering the 5x7s which are like 8 inches behind me.

i found a pic of kinda what I want to try.. but looking at this guys 8" sub I prolly only have room for a 6" driver. But you can kinda get the drive of things.. maybe mid bass?

An 8 or 10 inch sub (or even a 6 in a bandpass) in a custom center console will sound very good! If ya wanna do a cheap simple system thats not compicated, a set of 4 inch mids with tweets on the dash on axis, with just a set of 4 or 5 in the rear (no tweets and not very sensitive) mounted on plates, along with the sub, running all of a single 2 channel amp would really fit the bill. The sub bass presence up front really makes for true SQ. I know sub bass in non directionl, but the time factor is , well, never factored in. The SLIGHT delay in sound from the sub to your ears as opposed to the timing of the highs has a psycho-acoustic effect that just lets the brain know that you are not listening to a live performance.

Years ago i did an old 57 vette, was a factory demo car for Alpine, very simple system, 5's and tweets in the kick panels in custom sealed enclosures, and a soingle 10 inch woofer firing dwon from the glove box area (lots of room in those ol cars), all running on 2 amps and an cd player..........only about 200 watts of total sytem power........sounded AWESOME......one of the best sounding cars i did at the time using the current available technology I had. (back in about 92 or so )

I may really think about trying a full system out with an orion 225hcca...I am really thinking about buying it in a couple months...I know they'll still have it because hardly anyone around here knows what they are capable of
