I am considering buying a 4 channel Boss or Power Acoustic Amp around 100 watts rms per channel. I want all the basic bells and whistles, outputs, inputs, bass boost, crossovers, 2 ohm compatible etc. These brands seem to have best signal to noise ratio (105 db) and THD at .01%. I can get what I want for around $150. I just want to upgrade my Pioneer deck and 4 speakers. Do you agree with my choices? What speakers would you recommend? Regards, OJ
Post links to the amps you are considering plz.... And, knowing the type of vehicle the equipment is going into would too! BTW, Welcome to the site!!!!!
Welcome...also do not ever buy anything Boss. They are about the lowest qualiy you can get aside from Legacy, Pyle, Audiobahn, Kole, Volfanhag, and some others. The products are all overrated and will not perform near rated. Maybe take a look at some of these http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_5428.html http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_3579.html http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_1703.html http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_2997.html http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_2997.html And of course Ranger's favorite http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_4196.html
My vehicle is a 2001 Dodge Ram 4x4 4 door with an aftermarket Pioneer deck (3 years old) moderately priced. Links based on forum advice and one Boss amp http://www.crutchfield.com/S-CuF28u...g=120&tab=features_and_specs&i=130GM6200F#Tab http://www.audio-warehouse.com/web/mdl/PCA4.260/detail.asp http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=14796 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=14267 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=16413 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=13116 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=15804 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=16333 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=16660 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=13125 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=15525 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=16336 What is your choice on the lower and higher price end of these links? OJ
Honestly, out of all those amps, I feel that the SoundStreams would be your best choice... I worked with them for years and really liked the performance. They are musical, powerful and hopefully still made in the USA. You wont go wrong with a SS...
Oh, and as far as speakers go, there are ALOT of good ones on the market...Do yourself a favor and go to a reputable car audio dealer and LISTEN to some speakers, get what sounds best to your own ears, dont let the salesman tell you what sounds the best!!!! i would plan on spensing a little more money on the front speakers, and getting some less expensive ones for the rear. ideally go with some 2 way components in the front and a more basic coax in the rear........
Ive used Boss before. Headunits and amps. They work. They are cheap. But when you are on a budget.. what do you expect. They may be over rated power wise but mine never failed on me. Just thought you should know that coming from someone who has used Boss before.
Amps...I vote for Soundstream. I'm thinking about selling my MB Quart RAA2400 and getting this http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_2076.html
arethe new sound streams anything like the old school stuff. i knew a guy in the early 90's(actually got me into car audio)that had an all SS system.he was running a d100,and D200 in his integra.a 91.had 2 ss10's in a sealed box and some 5 1/4 comps up front.no rears.sounded real nice.
Um...NOTHING today is made like they were back in the day. But SoundStream is still a good company...they make some pretty hefty spl subs. Have you seen Hexibases truck with the two SS woofers??
What Speakers?? Thanks all. I think I will go with Soundstream. So now I need to research speakers. As I understand it the wattage of the speaker has to be as much or more than the rms of the amp, correct? I will want to listen to various speakers as suggested, but first I would like to know what you all think are the best brands of speakers for a moderate price for a 50 t0 100 watt rms amp? Should they be coaxial or component, front and rear? Assuming the amp has a 18db bass boost, will I get adequate bass from this 4 speaker setup (I don't want to rattle windows but I like a good bass sound). Would it be better to go with just the front speakers and a subwoofer? Should I go with 2 ohm assuming the amp can handle it? A lot of questions but I know you guys can handle it.^_^ OJ
depends on how much money you want to spend on speakers. Give us a price range and I can try to find a few for you to look at.
What Speakers?? Somewhere between $100 and $200 - more if that will only buy crap. My goal is great across the board sound quality. I like to punch up the bass a bit on some songs but as I said, doesn't have to rattle the spine. OJ
Well...if you don't care about the back passengers hearing a lot of the music than you don't need rear speakers...save the money for a nice set of components and power those off the front channels of the amp and bridge the rear channels to a sub. Should give you a nice high end and low end fill
