So i bought an Alpine MRD - 1005 amp, hooked it to two infinity 1240W's and in two weeks, one of the subs blew. I though nothing of it, so I bought a replacement. Now about 2 months later, the other sub (older) blew. And the same kinda blow. They both "froze". Is it the subs or is it the amp? or is it just bad luck?
I think you need to turn your gain down a little bit. The type of failure you are describing come from overheating the voice coils. In my own personal experiences, I have found that clipping the amp is usually the problem.
So I don't need to get higher RMS watt subs? Cuz I thought it might be that the amp is over powering the subs
Um...On those amps you need to remove the aluminum cover to access the controls...yes it is a bitch. Those subs are only 300 rms each...600 rms power handling total. That amp pushes 1000 watts rms at 2 ohms. You have two 4 ohm woofers...if paralleled than they are recieve 1000 watts rms at full power...try and see if you can turn down some of the settings...like the gain and bass boost. http://www.bcae1.com/amplfier.htm#clipping
hmm. good idea. thanks bud.. by the way.. if I was to upgrade.. what would be the best 2 subs for the amp?
Best subs is only preference....But for that amp one 10 or 12 inch Alpine type x would sound sweet if yuo have the money. But the Eclipse titanium series subs are really good also. Are you looking for all out spl....or just nice clean sound quality bass My next upgrade is goin to be one 10 inch Type X
Eh, Alpine type x's are too expensive cuz i'd have to get two of them, cuz of my box. Nothing with like a 500 RMS per sub? cuz the amp is 1000 watt rms.
its driving the amp so hard, that the audio output is "clipped" sending a clipped waveform to the woofer, and guess what, that clipped part of the waveform is pure DC voltage from the amps power supply, depending on amp, thats from 12 volts to well over 100 volts DC!
You don't have to get two of them....Just build a custom box for it...Thats what I'ma do...I've grown out of the hey look how loud and crappy sounding my bass is. But Ibanez...for the price I would seriously consider Caddy's W6's Loud and Clean
ok, how much caddy? i need two. also give me specs please, Im also looking at infinity perfects. DVQ 12 inch, let me know what you think about them, ive never heard them, but heard a lot ABOUT them. THANKS!
I've heard the old school 12 w6's in person...Well I had a couple in a sealed box in my explorer about 5 months ago...Then one blew and we hooked the other to the wall outlet....But while they were good they sounded wonderful...Specs for those W6's are 300 watts rms and dual 6 ohm I believe. Caddy can tell you more...I like the perfects also...but there still is a chance your amp will overpower the perfects...with the w6's they'll handle it no sweat...They are seriously underrated...two of them handled about 450 watts a piece easily.
okay, thanks for the info. So right now, it's price. If Caddy will sell me his for less than the infinity perfects, then i'll be set. LET ME KNOW CADDY!
I sent him a personal message. I only need two and no box. so .... let me know! PRONTO! I just got PAID!
personally if i were you, id take all 3 and im NOT sayin that b.c id rather sell them all but with all 3 you can wire them for 4 ohm or 1 ohm operation. with only 2 of the dual 6 ohm subs i think its a 1.5 ohm operation and 6 if ive done my math right.
